What's so great about temp control?

Evolv started it with the DNA40, i never had it.
Tried TC with every mod i bought in the last 2 years. No go for me, still prefer my Mechs.

I did buy a Lava Box 200, in fear of FDA regs.
NOW, i understand the TC experience. But only with dna boards. My other mods in TC are still lacking..

The issue of toxic metal products is more theoretical than real as you would need to heat the wire awfully hot before that would occur. Having said that, there's no reason to take an even theoretical risk when you can build and vape with SS. SS is safe in both wattage and TC modes, and as easy to work with as Kanthal. It's pretty much relegated my Kanthal spools to the back of the drawer.

No dry hits when I'm drunk dripping...

lol this was me last night, until I was too drunk to drip and had to switch to a tank

Most of my mods have TC capability, but I have always stuck with kanthal wire so had no need for using TC mode. I am starting to experiment with SS wire and though I do plan on using it in wattage mode, having the option for TC is nice should I decide to try it.

the FSK chips can do TC on Kanthal. I am a SS fan boy and my spools of kanthal have been sitting on the side line but now that I have 2 hohm tech g2 (and 2 more on the way) I plan to bring them out of retirement and see how well the TC actually works on kanthal wire.

Ehhhhhh they do....to a point. I have the g2 and slice, they both are awesome, but as far as kanthal tc I've found it hit or miss. I know some rave about it, and some say it's bs. For me it's just a meh thing. Sometimes I can get it dialed in close to what I want, other times it's like the mod says oh hell no.

good to hear as so far all I have seen is a few reviews saying it worked. I have a bunch of kanthal I ordered on my first wire order (before I knew I was a TC SS fan) that I would like to make use of if possible. If I can't I will just trade or gift it I guess.

The G2 thread on VU has a lot of good info and most there seem to be SS users/fans as well on the G2. I have tried all of the various SS modes (TC, Auto, XXX) and I find myself preferring the normal TC mode so far for simplicity's sake but I can see the XXX mode being more useful once I get a hang of the FSK ranges for my builds.

I kind of wish manufacturers would just drop Ni and Ti and focus on perfecting SS... That way if it pops out of temp mode it's still safe to vape.
my istick 200 had been doing this a bit lately with a build on a boreas so I kept the vw mode watts set to 20w so I would know when it happened. It happened again the other day after I got my G2's so I just boxed up the istick and put the tank on the G2 instead.

You know this question is asked all the time! Well here's why you want TC!
You want to keep the temperature in you atty below 450
Notice that at around 470 degrees Acetaldehyde (a carcinogen) increases like a sky rocket very quickly, double what is found in a cigarette. At 530 and up it gets as much as ten times that of a cigarette.

Generally I do burn tests, I keep mine around 390/400F So I guess I'm in the green :) Cotton starts burning around 400 I think so.... I've always stayed at or below.

Do you have the source for that curve? I ask because it's sort of an odd way of data presentation. For Acetaldehyde to be represented as a flat 1,000 ug per cigarette is misleading, as it will depend on the number of draws taken and not just be a fixed amount. In he green "vaping" curve those figures are presented as a cumulative for 25 puffs. It also does not identify the type of juice tested (VG/PG ratio, flavorings if any, concentration of nic).

Acetaldehyde is not a particularly nice chemical to inhale, however there are some tests that show high aldehyde levels are testbed specific, and not representative of normal vaping "E-cigarettes generate high levels of aldehydes only in ‘dry puff’ conditions", by Farsalinos et.al. E-cigarettes generate high levels of aldehydes only in 'dry puff' conditions. - PubMed - NCBI. Then there's this one"Effect of variable power levels on the yield of total aerosol mass and formation of aldehydes in e-cigarette aerosols" Gilman et.al. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0273230015301549 , which showed as a highlight "750-fold difference in total aldehyde yield between the devices evaluated."

There was also this study in the journal Lung Cancer, "Patients with lung cancer: Are electronic cigarettes harmful or useful?" by Dautzenberg et. al. http://www.lungcancerjournal.info/article/S0169-5002(16)30323-3/abstract. The highlights are well worth the post:
  • "•E-cigarettes should never be assumed to be totally safe: they are not recommended for use by people who have never smoked, unless as an alternative to starting to smoke.
  • •The emissions of e-cigarettes contain no tar and have less than one percent of the nitrosamines of tobacco smoke.
  • •In normal use, aldehydes are less than ten percent of the levels found in tobacco smoke.
  • •A complete replacement of smoking by e-cigarette use offers the nicotine user a dramatic decrease in the risk of serious diseases.
  • •The option to switch to e-cigarettes should be considered by healthcare practitioners with patients with cancer who would otherwise continue to smoke."
Note the low aldehydes reported vs. cigarette smoke.

@Steamer861 the point of all the above is not to give you a hard time, but to illustrate findings regarding e cigs are far from simple. The graph you posted is likely accurate within the limitations of the study that it was generated from. As such, it can only be interpreted with information of how that data was collected as well. It also may not be repeatable by other researchers, and in fact might be plain wrong. It is the problem of choosing data to fit the conclusion rather than the converse.

Me? With all the information available to me (which obviously is more than just those few illustrative studies above) I fall under the never totally safe, but way better than cigarettes for my current conclusions.
