Don't think so ... I was vaping at the bar too.

The guy was not real friendly anyway ... seemed like he didn't want to talk to me. After I asked him nicely what he was vaping, he never commented on my vape setup. Basically disinterested.

No big deal

Probably only there to get away from a nagging wife and peace and quiet (of sorts). Might have a few kids at home that are fighting and the significant other is yelling....

I would want to drink in peace tooooooooo.

I remember one time we were waiting for this older lady to walk across the lane so we could drive past. She was walking very slow without any noticeable disability. I surmised that she had grandkids and a daughter at home and wasn't in any hurry to get back. (cuz I had the same thing going on at my house at the time) Hubby and I got a laugh out of it.

If you run into people like you did, put a spin on it and it might help :)

I was in a bar / restaurant a couple of days ago and noticed another person vaping (guy looked to be in his late 60s). The guy was using what looked like a non-adjustable EGO style stick battery with what looked like an 'old-school' Kanger T3 clearomizer on top.

I struck up a conversation with him for just a moment and asked him what type of juice he was vaping ... The guy never told me the brand or flavor, but said it was 0mg Nic when I asked him.

That was basically the end of our conversation.

My question to you folks is this .... Why would anyone keep vaping if they had no nicotine in there juice? For me, the reason I vape in the first place is to keep off cigarettes. I am obviously addicted to nicotine, and have replaced the nicotine from cigarettes for the nicotine found in my juice.

If I could wean myself completely off nicotine, I think at that point I would just give up on vaping altogether. Someday I would like to be nicotine free, but for now, I just can't see it in my future.

BTW .... I have not smoked a cigarette for 15 months, but I am still vaping on my fairly strong 16mg Nic DIY juice.

1: for one thing it can be a lot cheaper; just mix up some vg and water and done.
2: even if you vape nicotine sometimes, you might just vape 0 nic some other times
3: also there's the taste; if my 0nic mix doesn't taste very good, then adding nic to it partially covers over the poor taste; sometimes you want to taste a mix with zero nic to see if it's any good by itself before adding nic to it.

When I switched almost 2 years ago, I was able to quickly go down to zero nic within months; once I established that I could drop nic easily enough if I wanted to I didn't worry about it much afterwards, and nowadays I keep a tank of 24mg but my main vape is about 2-6 mg, and sometimes 0mg.

I had smoked for over 35 years. Vaping was the only way that I could get off and stay off of cigarettes. I'd tried the patch, gum, lozenges, and hypnosis -- all failed multiple times. Vaping provides the following:

  • Nicotine replacement - you can wean yourself down in nicotine should you wish. When I started vaping, my goal was to replace the smokes with a safer alternative to get the nicotine. Over three years, I have gradually reduced my nicotine content from 18 mg down to 6 mg. I can vape 0 nic, but I must say I prefer a little nic in my juice most of the time. I also enjoy vaping for the flavors.

  • Replicates the "hand to mouth" behavior -- which is an important part of the smoking addiction. Traditional stop smoking aids do not address this.

  • Replicates the "inhalation/exhalation" behavior -- which is another important part of smoking behavior. Traditional stop smoking aids do not address this either. There is something satisfying in sucking in and blowing out smoke/vapor.

Vaping can be significantly cheaper than smoking, let alone a lot healthier. I have no plans on ever NOT VAPING - I enjoy it too much.

Addiction is a very complex beast, and everyone's case is different from another.

It sounds like the gentlemen that you met no longer needs nicotine, but still needs re-enforcement with the last two factors above, or has special times (social drinking/dining out) when his old addiction summons for attention.

Well, I guess the "Hand to Mouth" addiction can be strong too.

Maybe that's why I never could stop smoking cigarettes while using nicotine patches or that Nicorette gum.

But, E-cigs sure have worked flawlessly for me. :)

many people summed it up nicely already. I am not only addicted to the nicotine, but have an "oral fixation/addiction". I bite my nails too.

I was never successful at quitting cigs until I started vaping. I find that the physical hand to mouth is what I was having the hardest time with. Every time I quit smoking my nail biting got 1000x's worse to the point where they would bleed daily, but that didnt stop me. Vaping allows me to get the nicotine I feel I need, which is now down to 3mg, but also satisfy the hand to mouth addiction. I still bite my nails, but its manageable and not obsessive like it was when I quit without vaping.

If I ever get to 0mg, I will definitely keep my istick and my juice at my side every day.

I should add - I also really enjoy the Hookah experience in general. I own a 3 ft vase and setup. I lived in a middle eastern part of the world for 3 years and it became a wonderfully social event.

Should I ever get down to 0nic, I would continue to vape for the enjoyment of it. YES, I started vaping bc I was on cigs and needed to stop, but I will continue to vape at 0 bc I really enjoy it too and not only bc of my hand to mouth fixation :)

I think you vastly underestimate the other aspects of the "smoking" addiction.
It's not all about the nicotine for many, if not most smokers.

And the funny thing about that is that most of them don't even know it.
Because they have been brainwashed to think their addiction is all about the nicotine.

That's not to say that for some/many people, yeah, the nicotine could be an important factor.

I've always said that if I do get to zero nic, I will continue to vape. I do NOT know how to just relax and have my hands do absolutely nothing.
Well, when you MUST do SOMETHING with your hands or you'd go crazy...
Vaping is a lot better than killing someone.

I know that's what I'd do.

Like my daughter and me, my daughter's boyfriend is an ex-smoker who quit smoking before he discovered ecigs. I have no idea how much he used to smoke, what kind of cigarettes, how often, etc. It's none of my business.

He is more of a "social" vaper. He vapes around us. When he is out with friends, he takes his vape. Before he discovered vaping, he would bum a cigarette from friends who smoke just to be sociable. Now he vapes. He still enjoys a cigar once in a while.

He does not seem to "need" the nicotine, and vapes 0 mg flavors. He knows that my daughter and I vape 18 mg and 12 mg, respectively, and it does not bother him. Once in a while, we give him a few puffs of a flavor we have that we think he might enjoy, and he is fine with that. He enjoys his 0 mg, and we enjoy our 18 and 12. Besides, it gives me a chance to "gift" the 0 mg samples that I get from Mt. Baker Vapor.

As long as someone is enjoying their 0 mg, why question it?

Looks like you may have just answered your own question. ;)

I've always said that if I do get to zero nic, I will continue to vape. I do NOT know how to just relax and have my hands do absolutely nothing. If I didn't vape, that hand to mouth habit will be putting food in my face. That would not be a healthy thing.

That is one of the reasons that the patch and gum have a dismal success rate. It doesn't address the habit that we've lovingly cultivated over years of smoking. Gum just is nasty, even though they are now 'flavored'

Yes! They have fruit and candy flavored nicotine gum! They are obviously targeting children! (sarcasm).

Life goals: Zero nic juice with fruity mint flavors. Decaf coffee. Vape when I want, not when I need. Coffee when I want, not when I need.

I'm down to 7-9mg nic and 1/4 caf coffee. Progress!

Coming from a non smoker..

I know everyone has these moments....Ever have situations in your life where you want to take a mental break, clear your mind or just have a split moment of peace? Ever just want to take a deep breath and exhale slowly? Now imagine doing that with a warm vape with a nice relaxing flavor.

I vape for many reasons.

1. For my wife. She was a smoker and a few years back, I got her into vaping, and I knew the only way I can do that is to make it as low maintenance as possible. So we both dove in and started with cartotanks. And it takes a little practice and routine to get those working perfectly. Then I got her onto the protanks and I learned to build her coils in those. Now she runs an Atlantis and she maintains that.

2. I am not much of a fan of eating sweets and desserts, but when I do, I BINGE!. So now when I get the urge for sweets, I find that vaping a dessert flavor to quench that craving and have a small portion works, instead of the whole pie, cake, or bag of cookies.

3. Because I want to. And judgmental peeps can just shove it.

4. See #3.

5. Taking a deep breath to calm down is much more refreshing when there is flavor.

Because when I don't Vape, I want to Smoke.

I don't use 0mg all the time. But I like to use 0mg when the Sun goes down. I tend to Sleep Better if I don't use Nicotine in the evenings.
