It's just me standing on the Arctic Ocean. The Canadian Arctic is my favorite vacation spot.

I have a picture of me swimming in the Arctic Ocean, but that's for another time. ;)

I change my avatar fairly frequently (not every day like some people, but often enough). Sometimes it's just something I think is cute; other times it's something I want to share because I think it will brighten someone's day.

Currently, it's the latter -- the character Marigold from one of my favorite comic strips. She's a unicorn (obviously). The strip opened with a little girl named Phoebe skipping stones and accidentally hitting Marigold with a rock. It was fortunate that she did -- Marigold had seen her own reflection in the pond and was so mesmerized with her beauty that she might have stood transfixed for months. They've become best friends.

It might sound a little hokey, but it's a rich combination of sweet and snark, intelligence and foolishness.

I've answered the avatar question in other threads, but I'll put it here for posterity. It started with my user name, which was a pun regarding how I felt about vapor - a noble thing since it was keeping people from smoking. The term 'noble gas' refers to a group of elements on the periodic table, 'noble' because they rarely interact with other elements. I rarely interact with other people, due to my anxiety (which is often mistaken as snobbishness). Around the time I joined ECF, I was re-watching the sci-fi classic series 'Farscape'. My avatar is a character from that show, the Hynerian Dominar Rygel XVI, who farts helium when he's anxious or upset. Basically, it's a multi-layered poundcake of puns and references.
Great thread!

Mine's a Cinderella blue Lisianthus that I grew from seed two years ago--it marks the most difficult plant I ever tried and succeeded with (on the absolute scale, Lisianthus is, indeed, a very difficult, touchy, complaining, and slow plant to raise from seed to bloom).

When I shift avatars, it's usually to something in the gardens, and usually something I grew. This year...actually, 100% of the plants in the gardens I grew from seed, and about 30% from seed that I not only grew, I've harvested and bred for generations.
