Funny! I don't have anyone to watch scary movies with :(. My husband hates them, pretty much, but I gotta sit through Back To School a million times!

I hear you, the lovely Denise my love and life left the room while I was watching the vid I posted.

She hates spiders too. So I get to be all macho and save her.

Life is good!!

:(

I'm sorry to hear that...at least we have this thread though!

Yeah, *sigh*. I did just get 28 Weeks Later from Netflix today and I think I'll watch it this weekend. Netflix is great. I have one of those Roku boxes that you can watch Netflix downloadable movies on your TV.

Only film I remember with pilgrims was Crowhaven Farm from the 70's. And I don't remember if there was a monster in it or not. Too long ago since my dad had the old projector out.

(When I was little, Dad worked for a division of Technicolor and we had a projector and screen in our living room)

I don't think that was it. I know I would know the name if I heard it.

That's awesome that you had a projector! It's amazing how technology changes. When my husband & I got married, we got one of the first HDTVs, one of those huge rear projection ones. Now I have the enjoyment of watching Blu-rays with surround sound on a nice LCD. Movie watching is definitely an event for me - get a snack, turn the lights out and enjoy!

Same for me Red...love movie nights!

I'll throw one more out there for you. They weren't really pilgrims, but Bette Davis did dress with a little white thing on her head and a severe black dress. They had an idol that was made of corn husks and in one scene there was a life sized one.

It was called The Dark Secret of Harvest Home. Bad movie based on a fab book by Thomas Tryon, who was also the author of The Other...one of my fave horror books as a child.

Has anyone seen the "3 Extremes" movies? Each one is three short films, and there are some very uncomfortable themes. No ghosts, no zombies, no serial slashers, but some of the scenes are not for the squeamish.

I'm also a fan of "Devil's Rejects". I think it will probably end up being Rob Zombie's best film, sadly. He did something that not many horror films do: he sided with the villain. You can tell he's on their side from the start, but by the end they are outright heroes. There's no "final girl"; instead, the killers are the winners (and they go down in a blaze of glory, just like any good western).

A few others I'd recommend:

"Behind the Mask" - Ever wonder how Freddy and Jason and Michael Myers do what they do? This mockumentary follows a fledgling murderer as he trains for and plots his first supernatural killing spree. A great look at the slasher genre.

"1408" - For a PG13 piece, it's surprisingly effective. An author makes his living writing spook books about haunted places. A complete skeptic, he meets his match in a fabled hotel room that's just plain evil. A ghost story without the ghost.

"Dead Alive" (also known as "BrainDead") - An early zombie flick by Peter Jackson. The script is hilarious and the splatter builds to a ridiculous crescendo. It's campy, old school fun, worth a place on the Netflix queue.

I really wish they would make more PG13 movies. Or even G movies that are spook shows. What is the point of putting in 10 seconds of boobs? Don't get me wrong It's all good, but I would like to be able to watch more movies with my sons and daughters.

That's right!! I could think of Thomas Tryon, but not the title. Darned good book, the movie was only so-so. The Other was good too. I forgot about that one.

So not only did I find this forum full of cool fellow vapers...it's full of the coolest women on the planet! So glad there's another female Tryon fan out there!

You mean I have to pick just one?? Impossible. I say. There are so many sub-genres - slasher, gross out, psychological horror. monster movies, ghost stories, the list goes on.

I thought The Blair Witch Project was dumb when I saw it, but I was freaked for days afterwords, so it is in my top 20.

How can anyone not love Freddy movies?

Bruce Campbell - enough said.

Christopher Lee - ditto.

Anything with Vincent Price. I love him so much I named my first son after him.

The Uninvited (1944) was very good. So was The Others (2001)

The Night of the Living Dead (1968) is a classic, and for good reason.

Silence of the Lambs was great, but not as good as the book. All the sequels sucked, though (except Hannibal Rising)

John Carpenter's The Thing was both gross and scary.

The Wicker Man (1973) 102 minute version - NOT the 87 minute cut!! - is one of my all time favorites, but I don't consider it a horror movie - more "religious studies".

And that is just off the top of my head.

Impressive.
My tops NO QUESTION... The Evil Dead. Still can't watch it by myself with the lights off.
