I know that for some people it's often hard to pick a favorite. I know that for myself, there are so many facets of my personality, that there ends up to be an uncountable amount of songs that I could say "Describe me to the bone."

But if you had to pick just one favorite?

For me, it would be "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. I honestly only know of one other song this band plays, but Don't Fear the Reaper is still my absolute favorite song ever made.

For all the hard times I had in my life, for all the crap I went through.. This song always seemed to be there. Telling me not to be afraid, what will come will come and there's nothing you can do about it but make the best of every situation.

As for songs that just make me sob my poor little eyes out.. there can only be one ... Silent Lucidity by Queens Ryche. I played it at my Grandmothers funeral. It's the worst I've ever sounded. No practice could have enabled me to sing that song without crying.

This, to me, is a VERY hard one to answer. To a certain degree, I'm sort of an "if you can't be with the song you love, love the song you're with" kind of guy. But Gene Clark (originally with the Byrds, for you oldsters like me) has been my way-favorite songwriter for many decades, so I know it's got to be one of his, and probably one of his sad ones.. The question is--which one. Maybe this one-- "Gypsy Rider." It's so sad and the chord changes are so pretty.

my favorite song(s) are a tossup between two Iron Maiden songs..."Stranger In A Strange Land" and "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner". SIASL because it's how i feel most days...a stand-out from the crowd, though lost and unknown. nobody really understands me, and at times i feel very lost and alone. ROTAM (which is based on an epic poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge) because i do feel like a lost wanderer, bound to tell my tale where i go so as to help other not make the same foolish, selfish mistakes i once did. there's two songs that'll damn near bring me to tears every time. "American Soldier" by Toby Keith and "8th of November" by Big N Rich. i spent 6 months in iraq while in the Army...nuff said.

The name of one of my favorite songs is Vivo Per Lei. When translated from Italian to English, it means I Live For Her ("Her" being Music). Andrea Bocelli has performed this duet with a host of incredible women in at least five languages. This video was performed with Judy Weiss probably about 25 years ago. He sings in Italian while she sings in German. Even though they are not singing the song in English, and this may not be a style of music that you would normally listen to, it's really a beautiful, passionate piece of music performed by two extraordinary artists.

This is a toughy narrowing down to just 1 song. I love Jim Croce time in a bottle and I've got a name. However my all time favorite since way back in the 70's is:
Marshall Tucker Band - can't you see. IMO the greatest song ever!
Edit:
Oh I forgot the why. It was the first song I ever danced to. I was 17 at the ambulance banquet. My date Jeannie had long straight black hair that actually sparkled when the light hit it just right. It took me half the night just to ask her. My hands were sweaty I was so nervous. But I asked and she said yes. We danced the night away. I remember like it was yesterday.

First song that comes to mind most of the time when this is asked of me is Melissa by The Allman Brothers. One reason it reminds me of me ( yep still single ) and secondly I can sing the he!! out of it too! :D Stevie Ray Vaughan's remake of Little Wing ( I am a Hendrix fanatic as well ) is probably second. Try a little tenderness by Otis Redding is probably third ( I can sing the he!! out of that too )

Tough question....

I'm a unrepentant audiophile with a fondness for music not of my generation. From way back to Danny Kaye and the Andrews Sisters to Johnny Cash. I like alot of modern music but unfortunately the stuff I really dig doesn't get played on the radio much. My all time favorite artist is Tom Waits but I'd say my favorite song is:

YouTube - Grateful Dead - Dire Wolf.
Grateful Dead - Dire Wolf

I'm not sure why but I just keep coming back to the song after years and year, I always find myself singing it. Its just a great song from a great band.

My favorite song is an old Hawaiian song that makes me cry. My Dad passed away a few years ago. Dad was from Hawaii and he sang and played the ukelele. I grew up listening to the old Hawaiian music and I still love it. This song makes me think of him every time I hear it.
God Bless My Daddy
