Like the title says, what's your Plan A for surviving (on whichever side you're currently on) the first few days of Z-day?

edit: Tried changing the title to:
How to pick apart/reinforce your base of operation after Z-Day? or How I learned to stop worrying and learned to love the mob?

but it wouldn't let me! Consider this the thread for planning your survival, zombies included (a zombies gotta eat)!

I guess I can start off with my own Plan A:

Grab the essential bag with: 6 days of dry rations and sealed water, shake lights, 1000 rds of .22 ammo (lightest ammo ever!), Ruger 10/22 (raised 'peep' 4.5-12x scope) w/ collapsible stock, XD45 w/200 rds, trusty machete and 2' crowbar, 4x lifetime warranty wool socks, 6pk undies, 3 pr jeans (Bl, Bk, faded), 2x 3pk beater shirts, Dickees work short (heavy canvas), surplus gas mask w/3 cans, emergency blanket, wind up radio, small solar universal recharger, 2 tubes sunblock/insect repel, 12 carpenter pencils, 3 notepads, and a big ... atlas of N. America. I always have my cellphone and handy-dandy folding Buck knife with me so it's not in the pack.

Then if I'm lucky I'll grab extra clothes/food/weapons/transport on my way to a wal-mart that's hopefully close to a Home Depot! If it's already 'toast' my second 'primary' location would be a forestry tower or water tower for short term situation appraisal. Transportation to be provided by whoever is unlucky enough to disagree with my decision to go there!

Sorry but I'm not that nice when it comes to saving my own skin! I'll give them about 15 seconds then I'm pulling them out of the car or off the bike...

LOL! Well there's always time to prepare until it actually happens. The good thing about my grab-n-go bag is that it works for earthquakes, typhoons, monsoons, asteroid impact and parachuting Russian/Cubans as well :p

The weapons are actually optional for most of them. If it's bad enough, there's bound to be plenty of them laying around anyways! Or, worst case scenario, all you need is a rock and a REALLY good hiding spot to get anything else you need... That's down around Plan Q for me though :D

plus one on the xd45...i prefer 22 mag to the 22, but glad to see someone else is into the 22's....i got hunting rifles and an sks and shot guns, but the best all around gun out there is a 22...excellent hunting gun, great defense gun, plenty of range....at one time i belonged to the sks boards and they had the similar question, not a zombie plan, but more of a all hell breaks loose plan. they were more of a red dawn type scenerio, but i guess its about the same. where they could carry 500 rounds of ammo, i could carry 3x the amount, and still be lighter.

Also, i like ruger 10-22, but also feel that in a situation where ammo will eventually run out, having a bolt action and not a semi auto, is probably the way to go...less moving parts and also keeps one from just pulling the trigger and running out of ammo at the wrong time...and of course, i have my "zombie" gun, which is basically a single shot 12, cut down to the shortest legal length, and has a shoulder strap that holds 25 rounds....in addition to that, i have another strap that holds 52 rounds that i put around my neck rambo style.

My plan doesnt include a walmart or a home depot, but the mountains...less chance of running into the infected, quiet enough to hear whats coming if anything...also the chances of running into other survivors are smaller. I think once the intial attack happens and people get settled, the majority of the killing will be human vs human. people are greedy by nature...you have the walmart, i want it, one of us dies...the people who you can trust at that point, will be a short list, especially once supplies run low. And they will run low...

as far as clothes, i am hitting the hunting closet on the way to the truck. plenty of clothes there, summer style and winter. In less than 2 monutes, i can be packed and ready to roll with enough camping supplies, ammo etc etc.

The only thing i dont have at the moment, is the compound bow, which i am debating getting this year and starting to bow hunt. A silent weapon like that will be extremely useful in keeping others from finding you.
