Hello! I've been vaping for a few months now, still on analogues part time though.

I have a question about cartos. I've heard folks talk about them going bad over time and needing to be cleaned or replaced. How does the taste change when one goes bad? I'm getting a distinct metallic taste from a stainless carto that has been in a Jtank for a while. I don't know if the taste is from the carto going bad or if the taste is coming from the juice being in contact with the exteriour of the carto for a while.

I've added juice several times so I assume the liquid has fully changed out a few times, but I can't be sure.

Oh, while I'm here - are hybrid atties ok for dripping and/or gravity feeders? I generally don't drip, but I got a hybrid in a swap - loved the heat from it so I bought some more, but I don't want to use them in a way that woudn't be good for the device.

Thanks!

First , buy good carto's ( Boge's) and you will probably have better luck. I typically use my carto's for a week , then I soak them in some vodka for a few hours . Then just blow out the excess juice , and start using . No need to dry for several days . They work just fine . I have some that are several months old , and they still work pretty good . good luck .

When the draw, vapor or flavor begin to go off I'll try some way or another to clean them (I'm still experimenting with this). Once they start getting a burnt taste I consider that they have officially kicked the bucket, and toss 'em out. So far my cleaning experiments have had some success, but no method I've tried approached 100%, "like new" performance. One thing I haven't tried that sounds interesting is an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner; I don't have one but am keeping an eye open at yard sales & thrift shops. Otherwise my best suggestion: cartos are cheap, so anytime you find them cheaper than money I think it's a good idea to buy a mess of 'em.

Happy Vaping! :vapor: :toast:

One other suggestion: if you keep them topped off & the filler pretty wet they'll last a lot longer. Let it get dried out around the coil and they'll toast up on you pretty fast. Generally I figure if I've waited until my carto needs a 'refill' I've waited too long for it to matter anymore.

Just a spare thought from my cave. :D

Where did you get them for $0.60? I felt like a smartie when I got them for $1 per.

I didn't realize that I was experiencing the onset of a migraine when I noticed the metal taste earlier (a few hours before I posted.) It got bad about 30 min ago and now the medication is kicking in. I'll wait until tomorrow and try that tank/carto again and see if it was the headache messing with my taste buds. I ate a piece of toast so I could take the medicine and noticed the bread tasted sickeningly sweet. I've never noticed taste issues with these headaches, but this one was fast and uber strong, so who knows?

Just wondering, have you been vaping more/less or a different nic level than usual today? Different juice/supplier maybe? Wondering if that could be connected with the headache?

Altered sense of taste and smell are pretty common migraine symptoms. Usually those two kick in for me the same time as my light sensitivity goes up, but before the hallucinations and crippling pain come on. Of course I haven't had one in over a year, I'm knocking on wood that I've aged myself away from them.

Nope, same ol' same ol'. I only order from two vendors and I didn't try any juice from other vendors (I got those in trades and purchase of used juice lots.)
