I think the answer is quite often, either on devices orvaporizers since there does not appear to be a standard. My collection ofPV's covers a whole gamut from a ProVari to a Buzz Pro to a Lambo 4 to an evicand Vamo as well as a few ego style usb rechargeable vv's which I use in thecar or when out and about. I have also switched to rba vaporizers and havecompletely abandoned my carto tanks and 510 atty's.
The problem has been the center post connection. With atty's and carto's, you can fiddle with the center post and pull it out to make contact. With many of the RBA's, it's not at all easy. Some, like theVulcan (a Genesis style which is a great RBA for the price), allowyou to set the depth of the center post. Some PV's like the Lambo with its floating center pin will take anything you throw at it. The ProVari has a very narrow center pin which generally will fit into most center posts on the vaporizers, but not all.
The problem has been that either the male thread on the vaporizer is too short or that the thread on the PV is too deep which prevents contact with the center post.
Since my RBA's are all tank style, I am a little hesitant about trying to pull out the center post for fear of leaking. You are left onlywith a few options: 1) grinding (carefully, accurately (like with a jig), andslowly as not to build up too much heat) or 2) trying to build up the centerpost either on the PV or the vaporizer with solder. One has to be, again, very careful, since you have a large heat sink when dealing with that muchmetal and may cause damage to your PV or vaporizer before you get enough heatgoing to melt the solder.
I just wish that the manufacturers would come up with one standard.
