I have been totally cig free for 3 and a half months after 40 years of smoking. I am using an aspire K2 with a 1.8 coil and vape 18mg nic

I am in no hurry and I don´t want to go back to cig but at some point in the future I would like to lower the nic. I know that would be easy if I went sub omn but I am a MTL Tootle puffer :)

I am just interested in hearing some experiences, Thanks

Personally, I started out with 18mg. Mouth-to-lung vaper, too. I vaped 18mg and 2.0 ohm coils for about a year. Over the next few years I dropped my nic down to 12mg, and eventually down to 3mg.

If lowering your nic level is your ultimate goal, just buy both 18mg and 12mg of your favorite flavors, and mix them 50/50 for approximately 15mg. Alternatively, just buy the 12mg and see how satisfying it is.

Over the last year or so, my vaping preferences have changed. I'm now a direct lung vaper and vape sub-ohm coils.

Personally, I don't plan on going below my current 18 mg/ml level. Nic without combustion by-products is pretty benign, and is being show to have some actual benefits... and I still enjoy the process ;)

But if you're looking to taper off and eventually also become an ex-vaper (And congrats on becoming an ex-smoker!! :thumb: ), then step down in small increments, in a manner like what Bad says. Take small steps and let yourself adjust to that level. Maybe keep some of the higher level on hand (as in a tank ready to go) for any stressful times.

My own experience with cutting back on the nic is as follows. Started out with the 24mg, lowered that to 18mg after just a few weeks because the ladies who made my juice suggested it. Went from 18mg to 12mg after six months just to see if I could. I was vaping a lot of the time and had no desire to cut back on my time vaping. Had no problem cutting back on the nic and started making my own juice. Waited three months, then cut down to 9mg. No issues. Another three months, 3mg less. Then another 3mg less. Etc., etc... I am now at .25mg after lowering the nic little by little.

I tried vaping zero nic for a little while. Weird, but it kind of made me sad. Like I wanted at least a little spice in my life.

My thoughts as well.
I've been vaping for nearly 4 years, and I still vape 24 mg/ml juice in a mild (0.4 @ 50-55w) sub-ohm rig.
I've found that while the efficiency/vapor production of my equipment has improved, my juice consumption has remained fairy constant (5-7 ml/day)
I still vape about the same number of times each day, but I take fewer puffs.

You could try vaping lower Nic late afternoon and evening. That is what did. Vape your highest in am early afternoon, then drop level for rest of the day. I dropped my level to 3 but then went back to 6 for early part of the day. It is working well for me :)

I vape 7 ml per day with 10 mg, down from 24 mg starting out. I'd rather reduce ml's than nic, which seems to be harder.

My body told me when its time to start to cut the nic down. Better delivery systems also speed up the lowering. I had no problems getting off cigs with 24nic in a CE4 clearo. Switched to protanks and began to get headaches, buzz and nauseous I went down to 18...all is good. Bought some kayfuns and again began to get headaches and nauseous so slipped down to 12nic then again all is fine. Bought a kanger subtank, discovered how great claptons vape so again I was getting headaches from my 12nic so I went down to 9 and vaping happily since. DIY juice is great to be able to alter your nic levels to what you want in a whim without wasting more money on commercial juices to try to cut the nic down.

I agree with the above from everyone else.

I'm wondering though, why you want to reduce it. Is it because you want to reduce the cost of your nic if you DIY? Or is it because you think the 18mg you're at now is bad for you, and lower mg will be better health-wise? Or are you working toward eventually trying to quit vaping altogether?

I do agree that its all the additives and chemicals they put into cigs that more addicting than the nicotine by itself. Before it was red alert if you forgot your smokes at home  but now I can go several hours doing my thing without having a vape and not even miss it until I notice it sitting on the table.

Nic`d Up in Oklahoma!
When it starts making you sick. Or, when you feel confident enough to give it a try, you can always go back. For me, I vaped 36mg for a year. Once I went from 1.2 coils to .40 coils regularly and started to take bigger and deeper hits, I started to get nic sick, that`s when I started the reduction. With in another 8 months I found myself vaping on drippers at .25 and again, it started making me sick, so I dropped it some more to 18mg.

I recently tried 6mg and direct lung hits, and I "think" I could be OK there. Not ready for it just yet, but I know its an option should I find myself getting low on nic.

BOL.

Congrats on not smoking!!!

Me I started with 18 mg and did that until a few months ago. Then I started cutting down by about 2 mg about every 6 weeks. The amount I vape per day has not increased or decreased with any step downs. My target is 4-6 mg because any less than that there wont be much TH which I have to have. And I don't plan on ever quitting.

I just now hit the single digits of mgs (9 mg) and from here on in I'll be cutting down by 1 mg instead of 2 mg because my B&M shop said it's easier for most people by 1 than 2 when you get down to single digits.

Of course that's me. I know people who cut down by 4 and people who cut down by .5. Whatever works for you.

I have cut back tremendously over the years, but with some of my latest attempts to cut back I found myself vaping more. I currently keep my vaping down to about 3 ml a day and I like that level. It is as important to me to keep my vaping volume down as it is important to get my nic down. I will continue to work on it - no ultimate goal just as low as I can go and not go back to cigs...

I was a 40 year very heavy chain smoker. Four years ago I started at 24mg on cig-sized and cartos and then ego-sized with old clearomizers for the first year.

After 2-3 months I started getting woozy, anxiety, sleeplessness, so I cut back to 21mg then 18mg. I also found it necessary to cut back on caffeine and sugary drinks. (the decaf phase lasted about 6 months)

I continued to cut back whenever my body told me. 15mg, 12mg, 9mg, 7.5mg. If I had cravings, I went back up.

Once I got into more powerful equipment I had to go lower and today I'm using 3mg. I found the drop down from 9mg the hardest, but I think that was more mental. I did 9 to 7.5 to 6 to 5 to 4...etc.

I have some juice ingredients that do cause insomnia in me. Mint flavors like spearmint ect and something in the hangsen cola and my grape blend also so I can't vape either of those in the evening before bed. I did have many insomnia days with the commercial juices but with DIY I pinpointed most of my insomnia to the sweetness of the juices. I vape unsweet tobac blends and I have no problems with thirst or insomnia. My sweeter blends do cause me insomnia if I hit them hard in the evening.
