Where are the old soldiers?

Does a system exist around here and, if not, can we create one?

I want to know how often people really stick to vaping for the long haul. Most of the people around here seem to be new. Do they fade away from this forum because they're settled and living happily ever after, or do they get disgusted and give up?

Can anyone think of a simple, convenient way to check in, maybe every two months or six months? Just to check a little box and say "I'm still happily vaping" or "fts, I threw 'em away and went back to smoking," or something in-between.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I don't think I'm considered an old soldier but having started vaping about 6 months ago I thought I'd share my experience:

While I've never completely quit analogs, there was a point when I was down to 2 analogs a day. I don't really have the dedication to completely switch, and I don't think I will until I'm coughing up blood. I've fallen into far worse addictions recently than smoking though, so cigarettes aren't my primary concern right now.

Right now I'm going back and forth between vaping and smoking, and I figure that's better then just smoking analogs all the time. My E-Cigs have been especially helpful on nights of social drinking, where I could go through an entire pack of analogs in 3 or 4 hours.

Ok, how about this:

Create a brief survey or some kind of system.
Then figure some magical way for people to update the survey.
Anyone who likes can go down the list and see the raw data.

The initial questions would include:
Member name,
date you received your first e-cig,
date of your last tobacco product,
date you last updated this survey,
brief comment on how things are going (one or two lines, link to blog welcome).

Then add optional questions, like:
Year of birth?
How long did you smoke?
What's the secret of your success (one or two lines, link to blog welcome).

Then send out an APB (or whatever you call it when you send a message to all members). Twice a year on change-the-clocks day? Or four times a year on the solstice and equinox?

well of the really old soldiers(about as old as you can get in vaping terms),i know-

myself,Tropicalbob,Emperor of icecream,Kit,Katink,Tribalmasters,Trog,Kate,Ned Zepplin,Leaford,Karenwest,DC2k08,missdiane,Petemcarthur,Apostle,Cashmere,dnakr,Keef,smokeyjoe,pilbox and smokester..are all still vaping.

this may not seem like a lot,but there werent very many of us in those days!;)

sadly, most of the other oldies are incommunicado for whatever reason...some might have gone back on the fags,i dunno...but in many cases i suspect they tired of the forum rather than vaping.

That's a good idea to gauge success rates, etc. I must say that I personally appreciate all the "old soldiers" on this forum. I have been vaping for over 4 months and the information on this forum has been so valuable, plus, I have made some good friends. (Partners in crime, so to speak.) So, I raise my pv filled w/ 555 and salute the old timers and hope to join the ranks someday.
