I have been experimenting with micros 28g kanthol wrapped 10-11 reading 1.3ohms cotton wick (cvs rolled) air hole is properly oriented according to superx's great videos

I have yet to have it work properly, I'm keeping the wick wet, and still taste the sweet funk of cotton. I've tried big wicks tiny wicks, stubby wicks, coils up coils down, different juices, more/less wraps etc I even tried to find a wizard to cast a spell on it. Here's some pics
Any input would be appreciated!

I have noticed there is a slight break in period when trying to dissipate the initial "cotton taste"

When I use a PG/VG blend the "cotton taste" lingers for about 5-6 drags. With a high VG liquid it goes away every time after the second drag.

This has been with .5-1.0 ohm twisted 28g Kanthal 1/16th" micros using cotton balls.

I just take shorter quick drags when I re-wick to help with the break in and can usually tell on the initial inhale when the flavor is pure again. Is this cotton taste over powering your liquids flavor? or are you just trying to eliminate it all together?

EDIT: The break in period might be extended (albeit only shortly) by the higher resisteance you are wrapping at, I am not suggesting wrapping a lower ohm just give that coil a chance before yanking it out to start the process over again.

Also your coils look good so I don't think you need to fret on that issue. I am gonna try and dig up some pictures to show you how some of my "broken in" coils look.

I'm going to say you need longer legs on your coil so it sits closer to the airhole in the cap, and with that also to make sure the airhole is actually lined up with the coil. then all the other cotton stuff comes back into play

I moved the coil out some. The hole is about a degree off of the coil, closer to the juice hole end

With new cotton, you have to let the juice flavor "season" the cotton. What I do after loading new wick is to "wet-fire" the coil about 6 times for 3-ish seconds without drawing on it, making sure the wick is soaked through the process. This kinda cooks the flavor into the cotton and alleviates the cotton flavor. Hope this makes sense.

Don't roll the cotton uber tight, either. It will puff up, but no need to make it struggle to get there. Use only enough so that the cotton is holding the liquid in constant contact with the coil.

So I thought I had more pics but I guess I am just always looking at my coils and never actually taking any pics.

That coil was wrapped that day, liquid was a yellow-ish clear color out of the bottle and after about a day of heavy use would look like xobeloot's poo slingin madness. (I know, I know...who cares about the coil what is it not doing on a REO... filing taxes soon and gonna earn my badge.)

When you re-wick cut off three variations, what you would normally use, a thinner one and a thicker one. this will help you identify what direction your wick thickness needs to go. And shouts to turbocad, your coil could move out towards the air hole but I notice your legs are long enough you wont need to rewrap, just pull the wick, insert your drill bit or rod and after loosening the screws a little just massage her towards the edge... wait what were we talking about again....

I was very very sensitive to cotton sweetness taste. Using the rolled cotton from cvs what I do is use a very little amount, probably less that I should, but it's working, squonk with the cap off and then fire the coil up for a few seconds. I do this a few times, and that seems to really help break the cotton in without me having to taste the nasty cotton taste. Then I try to leave my reo sit for a few minutes, which ususally is when i'm rewicking the others, so by the time I'm done, I can start vaping off the first one. I try to never rewick all of mine at the same time, or I sit there staring at them for a few minutes, because that taste is just icky.

I was gifted Aunt Lydia's bamboo crochet thread size 10. I find that I like it better than cotton. You can go to Walmart .com and order it to be picked up at your local store. The pic shows a 300 foot roll but says it's 3 feet when it came to me it was the 300 foot roll. Hey for $2.49 it's a steal. They have it in colors but I would suggest going for the natural or white. I've also found that looping it so you have three threads and use a wire to pull it through the coil from the middle of the threads it gives you six threads through the coil. it lasts longer than cotton and if you under squonk it doesn't taste near as bad.

I ran into this problem when I first tried cotton, I couldn't figure out why it tasted so bad! I was wetting my fingers with a paper towel to roll the cotton, and I would end up making it too wet and the cotton flavor/water would just taste like a wet sock no matter what I did!

Now, I just lick the tip of my finger 1-2 times and im OK to roll it up.

I will soak it and let it sit for 5 minutes, ill then fire it 10 times for 3 seconds each, keeping the wick wet. After that, no cotton taste!
