Correct, you use unprotected batteries in the VAMO.. 18650 or 18350 for stacked or short mode

You can use two protected 18350, 1 IMR 18650 or 1 IMR 18350. Using single protected batteries isn't recommended. The Vamo will draw high current to boost voltage above 3.7V; the protection circuit in protected batteries may cut out.
