Hey, apologies if this is the wrong area to put this in, but I can't seem to find anywhere better!!!!

But the question is, just as the title says. Where to get started? Obviously I'mma need a multimeter(MIGHT find one at a yardsale since the weather is warming up -finally-!), but other than that.. What do you mod-veterans recommend for someone wanting to look into making their first mod? I already have a good understanding of Ohm's Law, being a HAM Radio operator, and am rather familiar with electronics, soldering, etc etc.

hi Nordic stag welcome to modding
a few tools are needed like a dremel drill ectr
read all you can and start with something simle . after that you will find and build what you realy want.
still have my ft1000 but sold all my ham stuff miss my tower and 20 m beam.

Ah thanks! Will do, and ooooh 20m beam, very nice! Only beam I have is a 4 el 2m, but she does good! :D

As for the other stuff, what I plan on making is indeed something simple, single battery, Case wise, it will be basic as basic goes. This isn't going to be a 'serious to have about' mod, it'll be a 'learner' mod so to speak. To get my feet wet in mod building. What I am thinking is just basic is as basic goes, single battery, unregulated, single coil. My ideal goal is a pretty looking, dual battery, dual coil, regulated cylindrical mod. :) But start simple, and crawl before you walk!

I'm at exactly the same point as you Nordic, the beginners step.
I've ordered the parts for my first project, an rta workstation. Basically a small box with a few switches and a couple of 510s on it. I have an ohm meter with a faulty 510, so I'm gonna strip that and connect it to 1 of the 510s to give a new ohm meter. And connect the other to an 18650 via a switch just for pulsing and tweaking the coils. Doesn't have to be good looking just tidy and nice simple starting point.
I've also got another friend sending me a vamo5 chip and a tin baccy box for my second project. Can't wait to get started.
