It's seems fairly common for vapers to experience a period of "taste-bud burnout"; well it's finally happened to me. I had some flu symptoms last week, but it subsided over the weekend. Food tasted bland, but I could always taste my vape. Suddenly, yesterday afternoon, the lights went out on my taste-buds. I know the conventional wisdom is to "vape through it", and that's the plan for now.

Anyway, just wondering if we could come up with a profile for taste-bud burnout.

Mine...
Smoking History: 30+ years. 1+ PAD.
vaping History: Vapeing with no annys since Aug 29 (~3 Months)
vaping Rate: 6-8ml per day (all day, every day).
Equipment: ProVari, usually between 5-6v
juice at burnout :50/50 24mg Espresso from TVR
Other flavors?: I can taste Cinnamon Red Hots (TVR), but nothing else, food and coffee tastes bland too.

I was at home with... nuttin'! The two times it's happened to me there was nothing else obvious going on. And I ran through the whole drill: Cleaned everything in my kit - didn't help. Checked my tongue - all pink and shiny. (Well, maybe not the shiny part, but it wasn't coated or anything.) Even do a "reality check" in a mirror. "I must not be getting any vapor!" No, I'm vaping like a fog machine. Sigh... Pull out my menthol liquids - then only thing I can taste when this happens - and press on.

I do wish I knew why this happens. Fortunately, in my case the longest it's gone on is four days. Last time it was only about 48 hours.

I tend to get worked up over stuff like this, so in order to avoid panic, I have to remind myself of the facts which are these:

It has happened to others who inform me it is temporary.

I'm still getting plenty of throat hit, and I haven't gone into a nicotine withdrawal stupor.

I couldn't taste cigarettes either, and when I did, it was not something I enjoyed. (Oh, and I could hardly friggin BREATH)

The sun will come out tomorrow.

I DIY a week's-worth of nicquid at a time, once a week. It's an all-day, everyday flavor that I "tweak" from week-to-week. I'm in this lifestyle for the savings, vanity (not smelling like ....) and health improvements. The flavors are an advantage to vaping, but everything that I've mixed, that's been "pleasant", has been tobacco-flavor-based.

With that said, I lose vapor flavor reception fairly frequently, toward the end of my week-supply 30mL bottle. I use a single DC carto through the life of the week's flavor, so even though I turn the voltage up on the mothership, flavor drops off due to that, as well.

What will be, will be.
