Where do you think the ecig will be in 5 years?

Will the government start taxing it ?
Will it be regulated ?

How expensive will it be compared to regular smoking ?

Will it be approved and the new defacto standard for smoking ?

Are big tobacco companies going to manufacture and distribute there own brands ?

So many questions, any theories ?

In my hand!

Will the government start taxing it ?
More than likely.

Will it be regulated ?
Will have to be if the above is to occur.

How expensive will it be compared to regular smoking ?
Not as expensive.

Will it be approved and the new defacto standard for smoking ?
Yes. No, 'cause it isn't smoking.

Are big tobacco companies going to manufacture and distribute there own brands ?
Wouldn't you if you were BT? Consider the po$$ible profit$ from an enthu$iastic niche market $egment...

So many questions, any theories ?

Yes... supply and demand... and whether vaping will be considered a medical 'bakky alternative or just another 'sin tax' opportunity. Times they are a' changin'...

1. Prohabition didn't work either!
2. In order for them to tax it it will have to be legal. Miss an opportunity like that? I think not.
3. BT is going to want to replace lost revenue from cigs most likely being banned in the future.
4. BT will get on board once they realize there is big money to be made.
5. BT will start out cheap and then raise it slowly once every one is hooked on them and then the states will tax the cr*p out of it just like they did with cigarettes. (It worked once why not do it again?)
6. Nicotine will be the controlled component of an ecig and you will probably need an RX for it. That way your Dr. & Pharmacist can get a piece of the pie too!(Gotta justify the higher prices.)

Don't kid yourself the states don't really want you to quit "LOST REVENUE" and you can bet that the increace in taxes currently on cigarettes is not for the care of people dying from lung cancer! It's to line their greedy little pockets.

Whew!....that even wore me out.
Now that I am done feel free to use my soapbox....

When and if BT trys to claim a stake in the E-Cig community I feel that veterans of vaping will most likely not buy their products. I base this hypothesis on the fact that BT already alters their natural product with thousands of chemicals to make them more addicting, thus increasing profits. Imagine what their teams of chemists and engineers could do with a fully synthesized liquid? Additionally I would not support their product because I feel E-cigs are LIFE SAVING devices and will not support an industry that not only produces life destroying products, but then uses its vast monetary and political means to attempt to destroy the vaping community.

Where do you think the eCig will be in 5 years?
    More advanced, yet greatly simplified.

Will the government start taxing it ?
    Will it be regulated ?
Besides the Nic, what are they going to tax? The VG that I buy at Wallies? The 2AA battery box from Radio Shack?

How expensive will it be compared to regular smoking ?
Your the one that decides how much your vaping costs now
Will it be approved and the new defacto standard for smoking ?
    NO
Are big tobacco companies going to manufacture and distribute there own brands ?
Of course, they already have a bunch of patents
So many questions, any theories ?

The thing with vaping is that there isn't much that someone hasn't figured out how to DIY now.
The trick at this point is don't throw anything away, you may need those bits & pieces down the road.

Still a niche product, but less so. Hopefully better quality control on hardware.

Will the government start taxing it ?
Of course, I'm guessing the nicotine at the vendor level, and better implementation of online sales taxes for the end user. Hopefully it will be in such a way that the guys in the basements can still make me juice without too much hassle and cost.
    Will it be regulated ?
See above, nothing worse than that, unless someone goofs big and a batch of bad product kills some folks...or more vendors start making serious congress buying cash and see an advantage in it...Could happen, hopefully wont.

How expensive will it be compared to regular smoking ?
More expensive than now, still cheap in comparison.
Will it be approved and the new defacto standard for smoking ?
Nope. Ecigs don't work for everyone.

Are big tobacco companies going to manufacture and distribute there own brands ?
They have not yet, I don't think they are going to, unless they already own "smoke everywhere" or "N joy" or other noob traps,,,
So many questions, any theories ?

I hope the noob traps go away and that more peoples first experiance is with quality product at a fair price. That would do the most good for the community. Don't think it will though.

In the USA at least, some of it is going to depend in large measure what the economy and government is doing. I agree that taxation is the most likely avenue, but the how is going to be interesting. How do you apply a sin tax our ban the hardware. It us like buying mj smoking hardware. You just have to say you are using it for legal purposes and there is no way to prevent their manufacture, sale or use. They can't do much to the flavorings, the pg or the vg they are so widely used in other applications. That leaves the nicotine liquid. I am sure there is some way to tax the crap out of nic liquid, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it rebranded so to speak as a pesticide. Plus, many people may not be aware, but it is perfectly legal to grow your own tobacco and I can imagine people will figure out how to extract it diy style as well. Based on how things have been going with bt I would I imagine the first thing they will try to do and be successful, is ban the nice flavors.

my opinions,i am in my 60's..when E-cig is widely used by the majority from analog users..this only can be very good for hardwares to be available at every street corners and prices will dropped as mass production & better made models..its getting a lot cheap now than was a year or 2 ago..the knowledge written in stone in EFC,from DIY to maintenance & health issues for everyone here to learn and update from..if today my government impose heavy duty on gadgets and e-liquids..i will be able to fend off and become self sufficient in my own stock pile i have..regards mafig ps if any tobacco company involve in e-cig ,i certainly will boycott their product

I don't see an outright ban on e smoking. They would have to do a "...... Madness" type media campaign to pull that off and the big media isn't in control of the internet.

How many of us get analog smokers asking about our vape systems every day? This thing is going viral--on a grass roots level. I don't see how any big corp lobbying can stop it.

The internet advertising I've seen so far seems responsible. Though I'd like to see better regulation on how the print media sells this. We do not need even a hint of perception that this is marketed to non smokers or children.

I can't envision grow your own tobacco going mainstream; could save a pile of money if you have the time, land, shed and climate.
Can't buy tax free tobacco from anyone or ATF will get feelings hurt.
Cooking your own flavorless nic is dangerous.
