If I were you, I would go with 0 nic. If it's just the habit of hand to mouth that has caused your weight gain, this should take care of it. However, please see a doctor about a weight loss plan and get a physical first. I don't mean to scare you but my husband used to be stick skinny. In the past 5 years, he gained 75lbs. He went for a physical required for his job, and come to find out, he was in pre-diabetes. So please take the precaution to make sure you don't have another health issue causing the gain.

I wish you luck and hope everything turns for the better.

As far as nicotine goes, if you're off nicotine I can't think of a good reason to go back on it. Most of us made the switch from tobacco directly to e-cigs, and the nicotine has utility, it addresses nicotine addition. There are claims of therapeutic value, but these require further research, and this isn't the intended application. I wouldn't suggest aspirin to address an oral fixation when an Altoid would do the trick, and that's pretty much what we're talking about.

Well i quit smoking cold turkey over 5 years ago. It was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life. I don't want to smoke cigarettes again i remember the coughing and hacking that i went through with them, and the issues my wife went through with asthma and other issues. Plus i have a 2 young boys ages 2 and 3 that i would not want to submit to the dangers of second hand smoke. So the traditional light em up smokes are out of the question.

My situation is this. I have gained a tremendous amount of weight in the past five years. And i have come to the conclusion that i have an oral fixation. I am not hungry, i simply want something in my mouth (i hate gum with a passion, so not an option). Probably a problem that carried over mentally with 10 years of smoking.... I recently had a fellow class mate bring an E - cig to our Creative Writing class and found it profoundly interesting :w00t: I have been trying to research into all of it and WOW so much info.... Tried getting opinions from people on Facebook and didn't get much back...

So i guess the big question is Nicotine? Is it a bad idea after so long to introduce it back into my system? I read *a little about even non nicotine e - cigs? I need some advice?!?! HELP!

My thoughts are that excess weight can be as health threatening as analog cigarettes, sooo, if you absolutely are orally fixated then going the 0 nic route may be the ticket for you.

What I wouldn't do is get a cigarette look-alike and nicotine juice. The cigarette look links the e-cig and analogs in the mind (too easy to backslide into analogs perhaps?) and nicotine you already are doing without, why add it back in?

You can try the Liberty Flights for e-cig starter kits. They have a Riva510 lite bundle from Liberty Flights for about $30 (20% off)when you apply the Discount Code found under the button at the top titled "Discount Codes".

Of course they have many different kits and e-cigs, all able to have the 20% off applied to them. It's worth it to have a look around. Depends whether they're in stock or not. If what you want isn't in stock, perhaps shooting them an email to ask them to notify you when it is would work out. Of course where you end up buying is up to you. (One note, if you use Liberty Flights, make certain that you are on the USA site by clicking the icon at the top to the right.)

Juice is also up to you. If you don't have sensitivities to PG then go a PG or PG/VG mix juice. If you have concerns about PG, then go VG and be prepared to thin your juices a bit with distilled water (I do). Many juice vendors sell both, I use organics sources Vaperite and Virgin Vapors.

Flavor is entirely subjective. What you like I might not. I personally do not like tobacco or candy flavors, but love coffee and choco-mint types. Sample packs are your friends to try flavors to see if you like them, or not.

I wish you all the luck in this venture. :)

Hi OP,

I am a no nicotine vaper and have been for months. Many vendors sell 0 nicotine juices. Some of my favorites are Backwoods Brew and want2vape Premium USA E Liquid. Vaperite is pretty good as well.

The choice of going with PG or VG or a combination isn't an exact science. Some people have very strong feelings about using one product over the other. I don't have a real preference, but since there's no nicotine in my e-liquid, performance really counts. I want to see that vapor, so I tend to stick with higher concentrations of VG, although for me any juice that's not 100% PG is probably going to be alright.

As far as a personal vaporizer is concerned, I know lots of people are fans of the KR808D-1, which looks kind of like a cigarette. I have one, but I don't use it often. I use a 'fat' battery vaporizer called the Riva510. It's the size of one of those Sharpie markers. This unit gives me the battery power I want, it's small enough to put in my pocket, and the thing without a doubt keeps me smoke free. You can find a KR808d-1 at Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives and other retailers on the net. You can find the Riva510 at E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings and other retailers. If you're going to order something from the internet, make sure you choose an ECF approved vendor. Those vendors have been vetted by the posters here as reliable.

Good luck!

o.k. here we go.. Stopped by the local hippie/tobaccy shop today they carried almost nothing in the line of e - cigs. Wanted to just try something and ended up getting a 'Disposable'. So like i was saying with the oral fixation: worked great. Getting ready to call it a night @ 1 am and didn't even have the desire to go get food to chew on

So here is the result. I think the general idea of e - cig will work for me. This cheap (not so cheap $12) disposable kinda sucked.

  • It looked like a cigarette, i definitely don't like that.

  • It was 0 nic which is fine but was tobacco taste. Well it said it was tob. taste... I actually don't think it tasted at all like tobacco...

  • It does not list the ingredients. I really don't like that. I will not use this product anymore after tonight (it served its purpose as a one time trial)

What I think i am looking for:

  1. Something that does not resemble a cigarette.
  2. Something that does not have a curved type tip (like cigars or cigarette extensions)
  3. Something with moderate battery life (i will probably only use in the evenings)
  4. 0 nic so probably a 100% or closer VG (brings me to the question about DIY?)
  5. Can i purchase VG locally and make my own mixture?
  6. I want a product that tells me what it it made of.
Any more specific links to products that i could look at would be greatly appreciated.

That is about all i can think of right now..LOL Thanks again everyone.

    in a cave, eh?
E-Liquid is basically made up of PG, VG, nicotine juice and flavouring. If you're making your own, you can add extra thinners like vodka.

Yes, you can purchase PG and VG locally. They are available from a pharmacy. VG you can find as Glycerine USP in the first aid aisle. PG you may have to ask the pharmacist for (they use it in their mixtures). PG will give you more flavour. Consider a mixture of both PG and VG.

You can get flavouring from Perfumers Apprentice. Nicotine juice you can get from Box Elder Chemical Supply.

For e-cigarettes, I'll just suggest Ego, Riva 510, E-Power, again. They have more than enough power for casual use, but they will allow you to try low-resistance atomizers. And they're all manual batteries, so they're fine for dripping. Dripping will come in handy when you're testing new juices.

I suggest you try e-cigs. There's no evidence to suggest they are harmful, but there is plenty of evidence that being overweight can cause health issues. Even if nothing else, you will enjoy trying all the different flavors that you can have with e-cigs, without the calories.

    What kind of evidence Nick?
