The "save the children" mantra is a well worn tactic here. All the extra money paid in taxes by cigarette users and hardly any ever used to help get anyone off cigarettes. A few free nicotine patch programs here and there -that's it.
Hardly any of it used to offset all those additional costs smokers incur, either. In July 2010 NYS had a multi-billion dollar budget gap. So they raised the tax on cigs another $1.60 a pack.
Yeah, they really want people to quit smoking. They'll just find new places to get that revenue.

Massachusetts did that for a while. Need money -go after the smokers. I often said smokers were one minority in America discriminated against.

If they do have a ban in NY, I'm getting a PO Box in Hoboken. It's a 17 minute ride on the PATH train (plus a 10 minute walk to get to the train because it's on the West Side and I'm on the East.)
I'm about ten minutes away from Boston so maybe I'll be ok for a while. But can't be sure.
