Hi All,

Thank you for reading. I am thinking to buy 3 18650 batteries for my coming mech mod. I am interested in panasonic flat top. batteries I am interested are:

High Drain Panasonic CGR18650CH 10A 18650 Rechargeable Battery Cell IMR (2250mah)
Panasonic 3400mAh 18650 Li-ion Rechargeable Battery NCR18650B (3400mah)

I would personally like to go with the 3400mah one, but I read somewhere that this one has more resistance and not as good as the other. I wanted to know if they cost the same or lets say just a minor difference. Then which one would be a better choice in terms of attributes, like current and whatever.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on how low you will go with your coil resistance. Here's a chart that includes most of the common batteries. All of them are safer chemistry so can be used.

The higher you go in amp capability generally the lower you go in mAh rating. If you don't know for sure that you will stay above 0.7 ohms, go with a battery that has at least 20 amps continuous discharge capability.

ETA: Some general battery info from Baditude's blog. He has a few more great posts there on batteries and mechanical mods. There are no safety features in a mech mod. It's all up to you to make sure you stay safe.

I thought they stopped making the panny CH back in Jan 2013... I would be leary of that one, myself.

Make sure to stay in your amps... If you must have a panny and from orbtronics I would go with this one. If he had the PF available I would have said that one.

NCR18650PD 18650 Panasonic Rechargeable Li-ion Battery Flat Top

If you are really gonna hit the amps do Sony or MNKE.

Those Bs are only rated at 6.8 discharge. As long as you stay within your discharge rate you should be good.

I am not sure what amps will I be hitting. I am thinking to stay between 1.2 to 1.8 ohms. Whats the formula to measure how many amps I am going to hit. Also, the batteries from orbtronics are showing a discharge of 10A and not more than that.

I know I will be staying between 1.2 and 1.8 ohms. I am not able to find any battery saying more than 10A.

I dont care whether its orbtronic or not. It was a recommendation I saw from many places. So if you know a better one then let me know. Especially the PF one if you recommend that and I will look at it.

What I use (reset then enter ohms and volts) In a true mech generally starts around 4.1-4.2 and I would not go below 3.6 or 3.7) I use a kick so do not worry much about it)

Ohm's Law Calculator

RTD Vapor has a good selection of batteries as well. It is what I trust to get my AWs.

If you are solely looking at orbtronic (alkaiser) above has a link to the Sony 30amp) he does have these

Hybrid IMR 18650 30A Orbtronic SX30 Ultra High Drain rechargeable battery

In my mind there is nothing wrong with having extra amps left over... so to speak.

Read Bad's blog too, as Ryedan suggested, if this is your first foray into batteries. He does a nice job as well as the battery university.

The only reason I mention the PFs as they are replacing the PDs with those and they are slightly "better" for what we use them for. Supposedly the PDs replaced the CHs.. I'll tell ya it took me 3 months of reading about batteries to get comfortable in what I was buying.. It keeps changing.

Don't skimp on a charger either.

Thank you. What would you recon as the best battery?

That really depends on how you vape ... The CGR is fine if you are vaping below 5amps, which you probably will, unless you are a sub ohmer. Even as the CGR is rated for 10a it does not perform that well above 4amp, relative to other IMR batteries that are available. As it was already mentioned, familiarize yourself with ohms law, assess how many amps you require based on your vaping needs, and then chose the best battery according to your needs.

Just because a battery has X amp rating, does not mean that it performs well at that max rating, when often times the best performance of a particular battery is at a level well below the max amp rating (Samsung INR-20R being the exception).

If you require more than 5amps for your vaping needs, then I would suggest a Samsung INR18650-20R or Q. But the Samsung is a good choice regardless ... I vape between 2-3amp, so I don't need 22amps, but my Samsung is wonderful, and hands down my favorite battery. For a 4amp draw or less the Samsung INR18650-22P is also a decent choice.

Thanks for the ohms calculator and the link to orbtronics. In regards to charger I am getting nitecore i2.

Look at the chart I posted a link to. In the 18650s there are quite a few that go over 10A and some at 30A.

But with the resistances you are looking at I would go for high mAh instead for longer time from a charge. You'll never use high output anyway. The best for that IMO are the Panasonic NCR18650PF and the PD, both at 10A and 2900 mAh. The PF has a slight advantage over the PD in performance.

Thank you for the info. DO you know a reliable online shop where I can get the PF or PD batteries. I just checked ebay but they are coming from China. I would prefer some US vendor.

Glad that you asked umarbutt610. There are counterfeit batteries of all the popular models out there and unless you know the supplier you don't know what you're really getting.

The PF are in stock at Orbtronics. Also at Illumination Supply. Also at RTD Vapor. I think you'll find Orbtronics the most expensive, but all three of these suppliers are known and reputable.
