I just can't get a dual 18650 5.0v mod off my mind and both dual 18650 mods I know of have drawbacks that make them less than appropriate for what I want to use them for. One is amp limited, so therefore not for dual coils. The other is made from a hard plastic that will crack... I could make a replacement for the likely-to-crack part as I have access to a plasma table and plenty of tin, aluminum, and stainless steel sheet... but gee whiz. An ABS project box is just far more appropriate and easier than fabricating an end cap for a tekkeon.

So, since what I want doesn't exist, I may as well make it myself, I suppose. I found an appropriate sized project box, but now I'm unsure of two things. The most important is the regulator. The 5.0v box mod kit comes with the 3 amp regulator with control pin - and I'm guessing the pre-made 5.0v box has the same one. The reviews of the pre-made 5.0v box do include a couple of happy dual coil users, but I have to wonder if the 3 amp regulator is going to hold up to abusing it by running it anywhere from 3.33 amps to 4.0 amps all the time.

So, am I going to need the 5 amp regulator? And should I care about having or not having a control pin if my application requires the 5 amp?

As a side-question, if I use the 3 amp regulator, would thermal epoxy-ing it to a heat sink be useful? And what would be recommended as heat sink> Will 1/4" copper or aluminum sheet be the right way to go?

Thanks for any and all advice.
