I use the Steam Engine to figure out how I want to build my coils. You can change wire type, size, diameter, target resistance, and other stuff and let it figure out what you need to do. I prefer at least 6 wraps on my coils.
Coil wrapping One of my builds on Subtank rba.

There is no one single answer as people prefer different builds.

That kinda all depends on the build, bruddah... what style of coil are you planning to build, and what is your target resistance? I actually have a whole bunch of different wires in different gauges because it just depends on what I'm in the mood to build...

+1. I swap wire type and diameter depending on what mood I'm in, the type and resistance range of build I'm shooting for, and the celestial alignment of the 7th moon of Jupiter. Unless there's a bear market on the Hang Seng, of course, when the date by the Hebraic calendar and the sign of the Zodiac comes into play. And sometimes, if my big little girl has softball and my little little girl has basketball on the same afternoon, I'll just throw any old build in there so I have something to vape whilst playing chauffeur. And sometimes I'll get a wild hair and tear out a perfectly good Kanthal Clapton build and replace it with a Stainless twist just because I was in the mood to build something and that tank was handy.

But seriously: Steam Engine is the tool. You can set up just about any kind of coil you can imagine in it, and get a pretty good guess as to how it will perform before you build it. Somebody remind me why I haven't written that blog post about the finer details of Steam Engine? Oh, yes! I'm lazy :)

I vape 26 gauge Kanthal on RTAs with post holes, and ,28 gauge when I have to trap leads under scree heads.

Everyone is right... All depends on what you're trying to accomplish. I have 26, 28, and 30g kanthal. I have a spool of 28g SS316L and a spool of 26/30 Clapton wire. I *might* build a parallel coil, but most of my builds are pretty simplistic. I range my resistance based on the topper for which I'm building. Generally stick with single coils, too. Yeah, quite simple, but works for me.

I also prefer single coils even in dual coil devices like Orchid and Silverplay Nano. I plug the unused juice wells with tightly packed cotton
