Which measuring device

I'm not sure if this topic has already been discussed. I've tried searching for it and didn't really find anything. In graduated cylinders you have the option to get either (TC) meaning "To contain" or (TD) "To Deliver". I've read a little about each and do understand the concept. However, I still haven't used either one and am still contemplating which is best for our needs. At first I was thinking (TD) would be best since we use graduated cylinders to measure liquids and then quickly transfer into bottles. I'm curious to what you all think, and whether it really matters?

Can you post a link to the products that have (TD) and (TC) on them?

I am curious about the answer as well but have never seen anything like what you describe.

After a little bit of research, I really don't think it's going to matter. If "to contain" means that it will hold exactly the right amount vs "to deliver" compensates for the liquid that might be stuck in the container, we're talking about an incredibly small amount of liquid. So small that I've never even seen this mentioned as a concern.


My guess is that even if you pick your favorite, who's to say everyone else was using the same standard?

(With all that said, I am incredibly new to DIY. Just my newbie opinion.)

Actually, I've been surprised at how much liquid *does* remain in the container. It's especially noticeable when dealing in small quantities.

Sorry OP, I can't help on your question. I personally prefer syringes when dealing with any quantity less than 20mLs or so.

I don't use anything but syringes because you lose volume by using those other devices.

Thanks for the replies and your thoughts. I'm getting ready to test a "TD" calibrated cylinder soon and will report back with results. My initial thought was that some liquid would get left behind and you would have to account for the difference.

I 've been using a gram scale for my accuracy, ease of use, and hardly any clean up if you have flavors, nic. and PG/VG that are in dropper bottles. I don't think you can screw up if you can read. Only time I don't use a gram scale is when I reduce my 100mg nic to 50 with my preferred pg/vg ratio. I use cylinders for that.

I have just started to DIY in the last couple of weeks and I also use a gram scale. It is so easy to use the scale with the recipe tool I use. It gives me the exact weight for each ingredient to add. I just place the bottle on the scale and press the tare button, add an ingredient in the correct amount of grams and tare, and so forth until finished. I use dropper bottles for everything but the nic base, for which I use an eye dropper.
So easy and NO cleanup to do.

One of the best things U can do to ensure accuracy is learning to mix by weight in grams. It only takes a pocket scale that costs under $20. U don't have to fool with syringes or graduated cylinders. Simply place your 10ml, 30ml, or whatever on the scale and add the correct amount. HotRod 19579 here on ECF has created an amazing calculator that does all the work for U. I can't recommend it enough. I can literally mix a bottle of juice in under 2 minutes with NO cleanup. All my ingredients have dropper tops. PG and VG are kept in squeeze bottles.

Trying to leave syringes and cylinders behind.

OP: As for TD/TC cylinders, it's like measuring ml in syringes with and without needle. I personally don't think it matters much.
