The "lotsa wicking" builds you saw were most likely for dripping (feeding the
juice in from the top from a bottle by hand). In that case, the extra wicking is to store
juice for more hits and less dripping (which is a pain to have to keep doing).
With a reo (or any bottom feeding squonking device), you don't need the extra wick for storage -
juice is on tap at all times with just a squeeze. All you really need is enough juice to saturate a wick through a coil, as that's all that gets vaporized. Since squonking happens from the bottom of the atty, wick tails that meet the incoming juice at the deck make saturating the wick easier.
So, most people who squonk will recommend that your wick tails are short - just long enough to touch the deck. Anything longer just leaves juice lying around in the atty to get cooked (not a good thing).
