Inspired by many posts by those who only intended to CUT BACK on smoking, dipping (any tobacco use) that actually quit, although that was not their intention.

I quit after 35 years of smoking, the last 5 years smoking about 2 1/4 packs a day after only 24 hours (give or take) of vaping and haven"t smoked one since.

(Anja, this thread was inspired by you.)

Same here with about the same numbers. Smoking was just getting too frequent. Felt like I was being forced to do something.

Like the saying for the alcoholic- The alcoholic takes the drink, then the drink takes......

Didn't expect this to work because it was just a gimmicky internet thing, right- not a proper thing like from BP.

Cut down to 3 right off, then got cocky and allowed myself 6 for a few weeks, knowing in my heart that it'd work fine- after just a bit longer.

Took most of 3yrs to finally throw out the ashtray and my last pack and lighter.

Me ... I initially had no intentions of quitting smoking when I started using e cigarettes. I was living in Canada at the time, and my landlord would not allow me to smoke on my private terrace . I was not about to go all the way down stairs and outside of my apt every time I wanted a smoke. I remembered seeing e cigarettes at the local 7 eleven in NY right before I left to Canada, I had a flashbulb moment.

I figured I would vape indoors most of the time, and then go downstairs for a smoke when I really wanted one ... I smoked and vaped for quite a long time because I didn't really want to quit smoking ... yet.

About six months ago I decided that I was ready to quit, so I increased my nic level to 12mg (was vaping zero to 6mg prior), and a week later I was done with traditional cigarettes, and haven't been back since.

I think part of what spurred me on was the fact that I was back in the US, and e cigarette products were available at a decent price, easily accessible, and a good variety. Vaping in Canada was such a hassle with the HC bans on e liquids w/nicotine, Canada Borders Agencies love of confiscating packages from China (at least mine), and being charged hefty import taxes on orders from the US (paid $36 duty tax for a $50 order from Capella's).

Being back in the US made getting what I needed easy, and I hope it stays that way. There was a time when I thought I would never quit smoking, and not because I couldn't, I just didn't think I would ever want to ... Vaping is far, far more enjoyable than smoking is on so many levels. :)

Same here the first time, and with 510 attys and carts! :) I went zero nic after a year and a half and put it all down six months after that. My big mistake was getting rid of my gear. If I'd kept it I could have went back to zero nic or 3mg when I fell off the wagon a year later. Long story short I'm down to 12mg with occasional hits of 30mg but slowly getting back down.

I had no intention of quitting at all. I actually loved smoking (20 years), despite the health problems I knew would come eventually. I tried e-cigs merely out of curiosity and from the very first taste, it was just so clean-tasting and full of flavor that I haven't touched an analog since.

I look back now and laugh at what I thought was flavorful back then, but I haven't come close to smoking since that day. In fact, I still have most of a carton including a half-used pack sitting in my drawer. It's probably far past stale and gross now but it's become a kind of badge of honor for me that it just sits there, so easily accessible and I have no interest in it.

That was pretty much the same for me. The wife and I had two and a half cartons when I quit and I also had an opened pack within easy reach. Wifey smoked up all the cigs then quit when she/we ran out. She's been without for about a month and a half now but says she still has cravings.

I'm still amazed at my success and all of the others here that have successfully quit. Other than when I started at 16 could I ever imagined that quitting could be so easy.

(Raises hand in air) Me! :D

I smoked about 1.5 ppd for 35 years, and ordered an e-cig merely to experiment with, for those occasions when I was at other peoples' homes and couldn't smoke. Otherwise, I loved smoking and was quite determined to die with a cig in my hands. :)

As others have noted, however . . . FLAVORS! It took about 3 weeks before I finally quit: I went to bed one cold February night in 2011, and realized I hadn't smoked a single cigarette all day!

No one was more shocked than I at how easy and delightful quitting could be! :):vapor:

Same story as most of you, smoked 2 packs a day on a normal day and more on many. Loved smoking, smoked a lot of cigars too, no idea really why I stopped into a local B&M other than due to curiosity. Figured it couldn't hurt and picked up a Kanger Evod starter set up, immediately cut my smoking in half without even noticing the first week, next week was down to less than half a pack a day. After that I thought "hey, why not give it a shot? If I can't do it no big deal, at least I cut down without even trying". Haven't smoked since then which has been great.

Isn't crazy to think that once upon a time we genuinely loved smoking?? I mean LOVED IT! But today that sounds ridiculous to me. It took me long enough though

I did intend on quitting cigarettes with vaping, but I quit much sooner than expected. My second day of vaping, I smoked 5 cigs. I planned on smoking around 5 a day for a month before trying to quit completely. After that second day, I was done with cigarettes. The last one I smoked burned my tongue and tasted horrible. That was the end!

i found it impossible to play referee in the house between the kiddos and their mother and not expose them to smoke. my oldest was having respiratory and bronchial issues. i was spending a lot of time on the deck while they tortured their mother. the more they did it, the more i was bothered, the less i was dealing with it because i was smoking the stress away. at times i was lighting one cigarette with the last. often i was power hitting them to the point the whole cigarette was a cherry before i had enough ash to flick. usually at least 4 or 5 back to back.

i had tried a friends cigalike. after chain vaping i got the urge to chain smoke. i tried another friends ego. same deal. chain vape, then chain smoke.

i knew i needed something strong, so i started out with a VV/VW mod, a top coil and a bottom coil. added to that was a variety of juices from 18mg to 36mg.

i finally settled on 36 mg and max vg. it was a struggle, though. with no intentions on quitting, i wound up going from over two cartons a week to 12 cigarettes in 2 weeks and done from there.

then i gave away a 5 pound bail of tobacco, a modified top-o-matic and over 10 cartons of cigarette tubes.

after all those years of wishing people would quit whining about it, now i can't stand the smell of a smoker. my how things change drastically.

    Me!

I was nagged to death to try an ecig my my neighbor. She kept telling me, "you should go get one. Have you gotten one yet?" I finally went and got the little cigalike she recommended just to shut her up, lol. I did not think it would work. At. all. I almost backed out at the cash register, thinking it was just another gimmick I was wasting money on. I had spent so much money on all sorts of stuff, mostly gum, gum, and more gum. I used the gum as a crutch to get through times when I couldn't smoke.

2 days later I had only had, like, 1.5 cigarettes. I was shocked. I realized the cartomizers were going to be expensive, but I knew nothing about vaping. I got online to search for cheaper cartomizers and found the wide world of vaping via ECF. 2.5 years later and I haven't touched or even had a craving for a cigarette. I know it's not that easy for everyone, but I was one of the lucky ones.

ETA: forgot a few details. I smoked 1.5 PAD for almost 25 years.

Moi. It just sort of happened. I just wanted something that I could use when I was unable to actually smoke. I never dreamed that an e-cig would lead to my quitting smoking as I had honestly tried many, many times and multiple methods to quit and had always failed previously.
I was truly shocked when I realized how little I was smoking in comparison to how much I was vaping. It was only my last 2 daily cigarettes that I had to make a conscious decision to let go of. Considering that I had been smoking 50 to 60 cigarettes per day pre-vaping, well, 2 cigarettes per day was a miracle!

Even when I stopped cigs I kept going to my old smoking area in the garage. Habit. One morning half awake a stupid cig just appeared in my hand automatically. Freaked me out and tasted like crap.

Was like some weird trip when I started walking around the rest of the house while vaping. Hadn't smoked around the house for 20yrs.
