And whoever the "foriegn company's" lawyer was, he should be fired immediately!!! The guy was making thier case for them to pass the bill!!! Dude was ......ed to say the least. We woulda done better without him there and it sucked he made it look like he represented us!!! People who were there know what I'm talking about.

What made you think he represents you, and what could their agenda be?

(edit add- maybe he is helping vaporers, but in a different manner? )

He definately didn't represent me or any vaporer. All he represented was some Chinese company who don't wanna lose its ability to import to the US. He made the whole panel think E-cigs were banned at the federal level at first. The panel had no clue and he had them all confused. He was the first one to run up there and speak and he did an absolute horrible job trying to get his point across. They were eating him up. It wasn't until people who actually vape got up there and pleaded thier cases we started making progress. You just had to be there. We woulda been better off if this dude just stayed home. He sucked big time.

Posted by JustJulie in the legal forum:

We have received written confirmation from the office of the sponsor (Rep. Marlow Colvin) of the Illinois bill to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes that the bill will NOT be called at the Human Services Committee hearing on 4/21/10.

That means it will not be discussed or voted on, so we do NOT need to be there.

The deadline for the House to hear Senate bills is 4/23/10.

That means that, unless Rep. Colvin calls this as an emergency hearing (not at all likely), the bill is dead!

We won't know for absolutely 100% sure that he won't call an "emergency hearing" until Thursday afternoon ... but again, there's almost no chance of this happening. Remember--the head of the Committee, Naomi Jakobsson, removed her name as a co-sponsor.

We'll wait until Friday to break out the champagne, but a few beers now would be appropriate.

Way to go, Illinois!

I'll post more later, but wanted to get this out there so that people could adjust their plans since they will NOT need to be in Springfield Wednesday.

This is just the most hopeful and excellent news... I'll be holding my breath, too. And watching that long, slow process at the Fed level... but this would be another precedent and just such a relief. NY is next, and our state gov. is totally insane and dysfunctional at present, so anything could happen, but I'm truly hoping for a good outcome here. Thanks so much again to everyone who helped out there. You all rock.
