Has there been any negative health effects directly due to vaping for you?
What stories do you have of the earliest days of the vaping world?
I bought my first on 06/25/2010 and never went back.
My one-year is almost here and I have had no bad side-effects so far except for a hobby become obsession.
My worst side-effects have been wanting to try more and more juices and the time and parts expenses of becoming a modder.

I'm nowhere near the first. Ecigs were first marketed in 2003 and introduced in the USA in 2006 (according to what I've read) but I've been going 4 months longer than you (2/4/10). I threw the rest of my smokes in the wood stove in my shop that morning and haven't touched another one since. Never felt better.
Early congratz on the year mark. Way to go!

Thank you and congrats to you on your 1 year! I wonder who invented them? I wonder if they were Chinese or if like so many other inventions, taken over by them and mass produced/marketed?

There are a couple of veterans on here, can't remember their names, but they would pop in from time to time (they don't comment here as much as the 'regulars' do). As far as I can remember, the veterans here have been vaping since about late 07/early 08. There are only 3 or 4 of them. They used to be the biggest posters here but have largely moved on. (Not saying they don't vape anymore, they just don't come to this forum much anymore).

Yeah, there's still plenty of folks around here that were veterans when I got here.
In two days (June 20th) it will be 24 months vaping for me.

One of my favorite threads from way back was the one where Sun Vaporer was testing atomizer cleaning methods.
Everyone was sending him their dead atomizers and he was trying everything under the sun to clean them.

His conclusion? Nothing cleans the baked on gunk off the atomizer coil.
The only thing he found that would even put a dent in the baked on gunk was industrial ice machine cleaner.

Some time later dry burning was discovered, and I remember reading threads following the progress of that method.

Back in my day, we didn't have no stinking cartomizers.
We didn't have no variable voltage, or bottom-feeders, or drip tips.

We experimented with different filler materials for our cartidges to make them work better.
We went through everything from Pyramid Tea Bags to aquarium filter foam to Buff Puffs to mesh pipe screens.

And we walked uphill in the snow while doing it!!

The vaping universe was MUCH smaller back then.
And I was pretty much an expert, knowing just about all there was to know.

Now I'm just a dinosaur, not having much knowledge on any of the newer equipment.
But I can still offer up a bit of old-time wisdom here and there.
:)

its interesting to read about the early goings of the e-cig thing. the above comment shows you how far they have come in a very short time. us that started recently are spoiled, never had to go through the most basic mods or fixes to make things work properly.

You can say that again, you young whipper-snapper!!

I certainly don't qualify as the oldest longtimer here, as I joined in November 2008 but the forum was begun earlier in 2008, I think spring or summer. However, my first ecig was an Njoy penstyle bought at CES in January 2008. I searched for information on the internet then, and found no forums, and only a very few supplier websites, such as Njoy and Crown7 here in the US, and ecig.com in China.

When I decided to search again in early fall of 2008, there had already been tremendous growth of ecig web presence, and I found quite a few forums, including ECF, plus plenty of supplier websites. Since then, that web presence has had virtually explosive growth.

Oh, and I am much healthier and happier!

Vaping since November 2009. I've been lucky, no reactions to anything really. I've gotten a sore throat from atty dry hits a few times, but cartos fix that. :) My problem has been finding all the right things to make vaping hassle free. Things that help greatly: 18650 batteries, bottom feeder juice boxes and cartomizers. I'm currently trying to switch over to clear or almost clear juices. I've got 4 flavors I really love, two are crystal clear, the others are slightly pink. It's all working out well...I love vaping! :)

After his e-liquid from China was held up by customs, one early user gave up on his atomizer prototype and added a little blown glass and converted the technology to something else.

The first public demonstration of the Thomas Edison's incandescent lighting system was in December 1879, when the Menlo Park laboratory complex was electrically lighted.

Rumor has it that Edison later returned to vaping but as it was not socially acceptable in Victorian times (unlike the widely available morphine and coca products), he held secret parties with Henry Ford, Albert Einstein and Theodore Roosevelt. These evolved into bigger parties, particularly when Hemmingway joined in. These parties became known as Vapor Festivals, later shortened into Vapefests.

Now we know what it meant when ladies would faint; "She's got the vapors" was a literal reference that was used as an inside joke among Vapefest participants.

I'll update this when I find my notes from my American Vaping History class.

This made me smile. I forget how long I've been vaping, 'til I see my sig. :)

Thank you! Anyone out there that started in 2003? What happened to the earliest ones?
