I've never had one vent but in reading this thread it seems like while some have vented none have exploded. Is it that newer safer IMR batteries like VTCs and AWs just don't explode? All the really bad stories I've heard about were due to people using unsafe batteries unsafely. I never go below .4 ohms and that is only once in a while and change batteries when they get to 3.6 volts or so.

IMRs are safer - they are not like the old li-ions that really would put on a show and that's why you don't need protection chips built onto them. They die with a dribble and a whimper as we all shall.

Nonetheless - by its nature a battery stores a lot of energy and releasing that fast and unintentionally is not recommended. I don't have asbestos hands like some and i'd dump the battery at the first sign of overheat.

However, I think ECF members should be more understanding of experienced vapers who decide to venture into the super sub-ohm range. A lot of the veterans that do so can also provide the best advice for newer members, and it would be a shame if they were driven away because of misinformation.

That scares me! A veteran such as who? Why would a veteran advise a super sub ohm build to someone new to vaping? Do they even understand the terminology your using? Wouldn't you prefer teaching someone how to vape safe?

Did I say anything that wasn't factual? I didn't pretend that I had some kind of secret knowledge. I never said anything about battery life. Yes I am aware that if you constantly push batteries, they lose life. I am more concerned with safety than the life of my batteries. They are cheap and replaceable. I would love for you to show me where my beliefs took place of valid information.

Your expertise in car audio didn't pertain to venting batteries in mods. I wanted to know who actually had batteries vent on them and why.. so I could avoid it ever happening to me. Seems like you wanted to brag about yourself rather than contribute to the topic.

I don't claim to know it all. I wouldn't continue to ask questions here if I already had all the answers. I appreciate everyone's opinion, but I don't appreciate when people claim I'm spreading misinformation. If I am correct me! I would hate to tell someone something that isn't factual.

Sorry, your whole opening pose seemed a bit Know it all and Matter of Fact.
Sorry I cannot add to your Battery Venting Log. I have always been as careful as possible with my power sources for everything I own.

No mods venting
No RC Planes on fire -all LIPO powered :D
No Stereos up in flames or Cars burnt down.

Now, If your Post was all about you Personally - Good to know you know what will and will not get you in trouble.
If you are talking about people in general..........................well, with some I've met, I have to Disagree. Most would not know a Fake IMR from the real ones.
I'm sure you should be aware there are already a Boat Load of FAKE Sony VTC5's out there. Sadly Store owners are selling them left and right knowing full well they are FAKES, and lining their pockets with their savings.

Can't really discuss Safety is the Users are not a integral part of the Discussion. After all they are the weakest link in any build.

As to Shorting a Sony VTC5
Wicked ... build @ .1(ish)ohm On an Awesome Clone of a whatever from n unknown manufacturer with who knows what for a center insulator.
Throw in a rather Newb User, (Maybe a shop hooked him up) toss in a Few held it to long vape attempts...........
Hmmmmmmm. Insulator Melts............Newb doesn't notice and has no Meter.(Shop might have one)
Newb attempts one more heavy hit.........................Oh crap!!!! Center post Shorts.

You really think the Sony is going to like a .00001 Ohm Load?
You think The Newb is going to suddenly become enlightened?

Now, This is not about a pissing contest. It is about learning to Crawl, then Walk and eventually run marathons.
That is my only point believe it or not.
