As a paramedic I routinely transported patients who have chronic illnesses to doctors, or dialysis, ect... As well as emergency calls. I have preached switching to electronic cigarettes since I quit 6 months ago.

I have met with many people that have every excuse why they dont switch, I have one person in my immediate family that down right lies about symptoms when they try to smoke electronic.

This same person went on a trip with family from Texas to the west coast. They sucked on an ego and a clearo full of 24mg strawberry juice the entire trip... But when in a situation where they can smoke they have upset stomach, headaches, jitters, every excuse on the planet... or just say that they press the button and nothing happens.

Anyone man/woman enough to admit to lying to avoid giving up smoking? Anyone have a family member that just out right lies to avoid giving up the habit that is killing them?

My brother and his wife are definitely dragging their heels and making excuses anyway. They tried e cigs before, admitted potential effectiveness, but had issues with the equipment available at that time. Well I have been more stubborn, found equipment that solves all the problems, and they still won't commit. They say they will switch, but just won't!

Makes me crazy, because it makes it harder for me to be around them. I'm still at the few cigarettes a day point, and tend to just go with the flow around them. And I know better! Christmas is coming though . . . Think I know what they are getting!

My doctor, who died 5 years ago of skin cancer.......but he was the smartest, most respectful, deep and undersstanding, and truly inspirational person i ever met.

Both his parents died of lung cancer. He "suggested" I quit smoking and why, but never nagged me.

He was a good read on human beings, and probably knew that these decisions come from within each individual.....we all have our time for doing things, and we have to be ready.

So, I really don't spend much time noticing other people's self-deceptions.......I have my own. :) We all do. Just maybe not about smoking/vaping. ;)

Everyone has free choice, and we are all adults. It doesn't drive me crazy at all.....I know how flawed we all are.

I took up vaping because i was *ready*. Had vaping not been available, I probably would have gone cold turkey. I hated the smell, the lifestyle, everything about cigs. and it just hit me one day all at once.

No one is going to quit until they are ready to quit. I know.. I was one of them. I had nearly every excuse in the book to avoid quitting. I even became a closet smoker (which now I know just can't happen, boy did we stink when we smoked) thinking no one knew. It's a hard habit to want to give up, where just the idea of running out of smokes causes anxiety that we race to the nearest store that sells cigs.

So entertaining or even giving serious thought to quit is an accomplishment for some. Many have probably tried to quit with other methods only to fail.. and fail.. and fail again.. so much so, that even entertaining the idea that vaping could be the key to finally succeed. It's that defeated attitude before even giving another way a try.

Then there are just those who deny even having a problem. I can quit anytime crowd.. never admitting, they can't.

But there often comes a time when a person just goes.. okay enough is enough. Or they accidentally quit because they wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

I had a friend who didn't want to quit but yet tried to vape and still wasn't sure about it. Her thought, it was too complicated what I was doing. You just have to get them in that right frame of mind and open to trying new things without fear.

People addicted to "whatever", are mostly in denial until they want to do something about it. I see cigarettes the same way. When in denial, lying wouldn't be uncommon. Just my opinion. I try to convert people all the time. People have to WANT to switch. One of my tenants has emphysema, and walks around with oxygen and still smokes. I have given him SEVERAL different e-cig products and have had no luck. Switching is not easy for a lot of people.

Problem is if they are not ready to quit, they just aren't gonna do it. It is a shame, since that would mean a crisis may wake them up, but you can lead the horse to water, but you cant,.............

My family .....ed the entire time I smoked stinkies. I guess they thought I would get tired of hearing it. Never happened and only caused more problems. I had tried many times to quit but none of the harm reduction products ever worked. And I refused to try Chantix. Glad I did, with all of the horror stories there are now from it. I looked for months on the internet for ecigs before they became available here in the US. By then, I was more than ready. You can't make anyone else understand. They have to be ready.

I tried chantix, it worked for a while... but once I tapered off of it the cravings were still there. I wanted e-cigs to work... I fought and searched and .....ed and moaned and had two failed attempts when the tech just wasnt there yet. Blu cigs are a rip off... but they worked until I got my first ego...

I didnt know anyone who used ecigs. I was going at it all by myself... I try to really help and encourage friends and family... it has nothing to do with being ready when you know its hurting you health and your wallet... its like saying I am not ready to quit ......... you will never be ready... you are addicted, and trying to quit is difficult, withdrawals suck!

E-cigs made it actually pretty easy for me. I just wish a few people I know would make a good solid 72 hour effort with vaping...

I was the exact opposite. I wanted to get a vaping setup so very badly to quit smoking but the people guiding me wouldn't help me figure out a kit that cost less than $200 (Top of the line Volcano setup + juice and spare parts)and I didn't know enough to look elsewhere. So I didn't get a setup for a year. :p

I found a thread on a gaming forum which had people who recommended an ego kit which I could get for $80. It was a stretch for us monetarily as we didn't know if it would work so it could have been $80 + the cost of cigs if it failed. It didn't fail and i have been smoke free since the day my little ego-C kit arrived in the mail.

I've easily talked to 15-20 smokers locally who told me they believe vaping to be just one more scam due to using a cig-a-like, like a Blu, Fin or SE, etc. They found them very inconsistent and too much of a hassle. I can understand their frustration. I wouldn't have a problem with these large cig-a-like companies IF they also provided a "step-up" model that provided longer battery life and better consistency. But they are just in it for the money and really don't care about the big short-comings of their product, IMO.

Personally I have not. However I bought my MIL a set up with two different 15 ml bottles of juice almost three months ago and she pulls out her ecig whenever I am around and says how much she likes it and is smoking less. When I ask her if she wants to go try some different juices or if she needs more she tells me that she still has over half of what I gave her left. Sigh.

I don't understand why you would. Adults are free to make their own decisions, even ones others don't agree with. Just about all of us are former smokers and made that same decision. Just because we moved on doesn't give us the right to look down on those that still do. If you want to smoke, that's your right. No need to lie about it.
