hell, skip the recipes, just put time and place. and how to dress.
i do all the cooking, and experamenting<sp> in the kitchen, it always comes out different because i dont write it down. we have been on a sweet yam kick, i`ve done mashed, baked, broiled, fried, have yet to deep fry them. i have been thinking about stuffed yams, with black and green olives, onions, bell peppers and all the twiggy spices(sage, rosemary, dill, whole peppercorns, and the like)
any ideas?

I tried a greek recipe years ago and you have made me think about it again. It was really good. I had clipped it from the newspaper. I think I still have it! When I locate it-Shouldn't be hard, I do have an organizer, I'll list it.
Haven't done anything with yams lately-I'll start playing and see what happens.

Did a quick google with your above ingredients and this is what I got.....

Hey I LOVE to cook and thanks for the pix and links! But y'all are in another league. I do Southern Indiana German Granny Homestyle Comfort Food genre. :) We generally don't use recipes, just master the techniques and cook by smell, feel, and looks. I've written down "recipes" for my daughters, but it's just a list of ingredients, subject to availability and/or substitution. Some things like chicken and dumplings are amazingly consistent. Others like vegetable soup vary.

We've taken to ordering the bulk of our groceries from Angel Food and Great Food For All since DD and grandchildren have moved into our "empty nest." (Ha! Empty for about a month!) It's a marvelous challenge, taking food you didn't exactly pick out and coming up with yummy menus and recipes. And yeah we eat really good food. I've got some inch-thick bnls pork chops I'm gonna stuff and some wickedly huge t-bones that look like Porterhouses. We do seem to have an overabundance of dry pinto beans...and no ham8-o.

Any leftover meat goes good with beans :) I lovelove beans have done 'em with turky, pumpkin (pumpkin chili is.. interesting if you don't mind sweet), beef, and verious others.I love that idea (angelfood) Should look into it. My finicky eating youngest daughter is starting to develop a more diverse palette now. (She's on a chinese kick right now, want asien pears, dumplings, manderin oranges, etc)

You gave me an idea. What I want from the ham is the smoke flavor. I have an electric smoker. (Highly recommend, made by Masterbuilt. You can check it out on QVC, be sure to get the digital control.) Any meat will probably do nicely, and I think I have a pkg of pork riblets lurking in the freezer somewhere. Gotta be careful though. Sitting in the garage enjoying the wonderful aroma of hickory was a huge trigger for lighting up:p and drinking beer, and I've only been off the cigs 3 1/2 weeks. Haven't had a single craving but sometimes I forget I don't smoke.

Cooked up some filets and lamb chops last night, huge salad and potatoes-baked with olive oil and few select spices. Tonight I sent everyone away and for me, I get the leftovers with a bottle of Gumdale Merlot. Me, myself and an aroma I just love-deep not too dark merlot---all for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love to cook but I'm also a bit of a snob.
I want everything just the way I like it.
I like the best ingredients and therefore find it hard going to restaurants.

My specialty would be Italian.
Love making my own sauces.
Love making my own pasta and breads.

Really hard to find good tomatoes in the states though.
At least on the west coast.

Recently I've really gotten into stirfry's.

I love good seafood too but that's really hard to find here.
Generally I wait to go overseas for that unless I'm down south.
The west coast sucks for seafood.

I love to bake does that count? LOL
Home made bread of lots of varieties and cakes, pies , cookies you name it.
Breads are my favorite though.
I was tought the art of breadmaking by an elderly German lady in my youth and
have loved it ever since.
Only problem is , I could never keep it in the house, kids would run off with entire loaves right out of the oven and make huge subs to eat! LOL

I absolutely love to cook. Before I met my current girlfriend, I always viewed cooking as a sort of chore. I mean, I have to eat. I love to eat. But I was never so into cooking before as I am now. From the third or fourth date we've been preparing amazing dinners together. Wonderful dishes I would never have bothered myself to make 3 years ago.

Now, after 2 years of cooking these incredible meals with the absolute love of my life, it's become more hobby than chore any I actually look forward to cooking the next big dinner. In the past 3 days I've made: Thursday- Ribeye Bulgogi with sticky rice and sauteed onion, Friday- Dill and Basil marinated Salmon with wild rice and southwestern style corn bread, and Saturday- home-made Ramen from scratch with fried tofu, poached egg, scallions, kimchee dumplings, seaweed and cucumber. Om nom nom.

So who here loves cooking? Any delicious recipes you'd like to share? I'll be sure to share a few soon! We like making more exotic meals most of the time.

Anyway, time for sleep. Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

If you PM me with an email that I can reply to outside this forum and attach recipes in word docs - can easily send you my yummy ones. I am making all my meals from scratch without using any prepared stuff and love your mentioned ones above. I also have some incredible greek recipes if you are into those.

Thanks,
IdolLurker

I have more of a love for baking then cooking, have to have that science with the art...LOL

Trying to diversify in my cooking though and make more... well not the same things over and over again but on a real limited budget right now...LOL

I did cook a rhubarb pie for the first time yesterday, wanted something sweet and since I don't really buy sweet things had to make some, so my rhubarb got thined for the first time yesterday to get the required lb...LOL

Wish I was as inventive as some of you are, but I am a simple cook who starts diner about 1/2 before it needs to be on the table...LOL

Made Bibimbap tonight. I just love this Korean dish, when we go out. So..........I looked it up online. Took quite a few hours to find what I thought was more to the dish we have had in the past. Oh my, it was successful and can be improved on but, so worth the time and effort. Between the oriental market and the whole foods market and the cooking, I can't tell you which was more fun. The eating of this dish was by far the best part.

Seems all have lost touch with our thread:(
Two lugs of olive oil in a fry pan.
Add two small yukon potaotes thinly sliced and peppered.
Saute for about 3-4 minutes. Add 3 mushrooms thinly sliced.
Saute for 3 minutes and add 2 spring onions sliced thinly and 1/4 of a tomato diced with seeds removed, continue to cook for another minute. I add a handful of spinach at this point. Add 1 clove of garlic cook for one more minute and add 6 eggs scrambled to mixture and stir up completely. Allow bottom of egg to just begin to set and put in a 350 degree, preheated oven for 10 minutes.
That's what we had for dinner tonight!
