i normally mainly use 18650’s from the main brands from trusted suppliers, my choice is Liion. I keep hearing that efest are all rewraps of other brands batteries. So my question is who makes the original 18500’s ? I can’t find any of the top brands making these. I am really liking the efests i got but am confused to the best choice. Reason i got into the 18500’s is the Lost Vape Coral dna 60. Love the mod and want the best batteries available.

You know, that’s a really good question. I don’t know if even @Mooch who is the local battery deity has the answer to that one. His blog Mooch's blog | E-Cigarette Forum
Can tell you though which ones are tested as safe and has a list of reliable resellers
Yes i read mooch and know the reliable sellers. He currently has took off 18500’s due to the testing and info is to old. So who really makes them is the question. Also why do Sony , samsung, LG not sell them.

There is almost no market for them.

Someone probably does "make them originally" but I have no idea who. I've gotten efests before and haven't cared for them... Does maybe AW make a battery, they often will make those more "unusual" batteries that seem to mainly have a market for vaping (although I'm sure they are USEDD in some other applications). You may want to check there, I believe AW makes their own batteries as there were reports of issues in their production recently due to a manufacturing... something... It might have been a flood, I don't remember. I've used efests in my provairs and the battery life is nowhere near that of AW, although I will say they were sent as part of a "package" deal on a provari, or I probably wouldn't have even tried them, and I have no idea what age they were, so probably not a fair comparison as from the sounds of things they were older. Probably would have just tossed them if I didn't know the seller.

Best of luck finding what you need!

As far as i am aware AW only does button top 18500's. They only flat top ones i can find are Efest and MXJO. Panasonic does make one but the max. continuous discharge is way to low at 3.8 amps.

18650 batteries are designed and manufactured primarily for the auto industry and OEM power tool industry. They are meant to be used only in battery packs which have their own protection circuitry and battery management system. They were never meant to be used solo like we use them in vaping. The fact that they are available to us vapers is often there is a surplus supply available for independent battery suppliers to buy and sell.

18490/18500 batteries are not used by the auto industry or power tool industry, so the big four (LG, Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic/Sanyo) do not manufacture them. To my knowledge, only a few China battery "manufacturers" make them for the flashlight industry: AW, Efest, MXJO, and maybe the Trustfire/Surefire companies.

No question that AW makes the best 18490 battery: 18 amp continuous discharge rate and 1200 mah (specs you can trust). Compare those spec with the two varieties of purple Efest 18500 10/15 amp cdr 1000 mah battery and MXJO; and we all know how Efest and MXJO exaggerates their specs.

Thanks for that, shame aw do not have a flat top 18500. I am kind of surprised by the efest, it lasts me easily two nights of heavy use before dropping to 3.7 volts. I normally only use LG and Samsung batteries for 18650 and Basen black for 26650. I bought three of the purple efests on your picture, $2.80 each from Liion wholesale.

Sanyo, Panasonic and Sony are the only manufacturer from the big ones, that still have them in their range...however only at High-Capacity.
There are several small-medium sized Chinese manufacturer for high Power 18500, most of the batteries are used in battery packs in Toys (like small drones).
Some manufacturer of electric toothbrushes, Hair pulling devices and measurement devices are still using them (mostly high-capacity batteries)...but their market share is really small.
