Who uses Twitter ??

I just accessed my Twitter page for the first time in a yr. It's Twitter

It says I follow 20 people but I haven't a clue what that means or why I'm following them or where I'm following them to. Why are they there anyway?

If it says you follow 20 people and you didn't actually "follow" them, you should change your password - they have security breaches all the time.
