So I've been on vacation for the last week, which means quite a bit of time spent in front of the computer. As such, I've been taking advantage of the V4L pass-thru, with pretty good results - apart from it's thirst for juice :p

So anyway, to make a long story short - If you're plugging your PT into a USB extension cable, stop it! Right nao!!! If it's possible by any means, plug that bad boy directly into the USB port and SMILE! :w00t: But seriously, wow, what a difference. I went from a somewhat noticeable improvement over the regular batteries, to a very noticeable jump in vapor and throat hit (even with lower mg carts). I guess even with a 4-5 ft extension, the power drain thru the wire was enough to nerf it's full potential.

This somewhat belated discovery came in the midst of some serious reading about a few of the HV mods out there right now. And now that I have the PT hooked up right, and seeing what V4L cartos can do at a true 5 volts, I'm super curious.

I hope it's not considered cheating, but I'd love to have this type of PT performance in a more portable format. I've already decided that cartos are way too convenient, and the V4L selection and service is beyond compare, so I'll definitely be sticking with them for consumables.

Let me be clear - I'm not disappointed with my V4L purchases in any way, shape, or form. It's a great product, and I'll be a V4L customer for life. But as part of the journey in finding exactly what it's gonna take to keep me off analogs (2 weeks now!), I feel compelled to research whatever it might be that will help along the way.

So is there anyone out there that has made the jump to an HV mod for use with the V4L cartos? For reference, the main candidate I've considered is the Prodigy V2.

Thanks all,
-adam

V4L will be coming out with a battery mod, but no one knows when that will be.

Having said that, several of us use big battery mods.

I personally have a Silver Bullet and a BB and they can't be beat. If you think the PT hits hard, wait until you try the Silver Bullet with two RCR123A 3.0v batteries and a V4L carto. It will blow the top of your head off!!! 8-o

Wow, 6v thru a carto? For something that is designed to be disposable, that's impressive. Do they last thru several refills? I'm not looking for a cart to last me for a solid week of vaping, but 3-4 refills at 5-6v would be nice before burning up.

I've looked at the SB and BB, but the main thing that kept me away from the SB was the size. Not sure how I'd be able to explain that to the wife, especially after the trouble I had explaining why I was gonna need to buy some Everclear to clean out some of the carto flavors I didn't quite care for.

And size is one of the reasons I started looking into the Prodigy V2. Seemed to be one of the smaller full-size HV mods. Dabbled with the idea of the Protege and BB, just to get the "fresh off the charger feel" for a good part of the day, but now I think it would be somewhat of a let-down to run anything less than 5v.

Thanks for the reply PawPaw, much appreciate your input.

Yeah, I've seen a couple threads where people went 6v on the BB and Protege, pretty brave 8-o

Do you use the SB/BB mainly for the 3.7v long-term battery life?

And speaking of getting your head blown off at 6v, I just watched the moobyghost review of the Chuck. I love his reviews, but seeing this made me giggle like a little school girl:

YouTube - moobyghost's Channel - Right at around 4:44 of the video.

I use cartomizers On several HV mods and they work very well.. I dont even use my regular atomizers any longer for HV use.

I wont mention which devices I use as this is a sub for V4L, but any 6v mod will give the same great performance over 3.7 devices as it isn't the device it's the cartomizer at 6v that makes all the difference..

So Milky I would suggest that you get a 6v mod and try what you've been missing!

Happy new years!

You can use a boost regulator to take the 3.7v to 5v (or even higher). I picked up a digipower cell recharger that has the boost regulator and usb charging all on one board. I cut it apart and soldered it to a 3.7v 750ma flat cell. Unfortunately, the protection in the flat cell is shutting the battery down due to the amp draw off the atty. It thinks it's a dead short and immediately cuts power. I have four 18650's on the way, when they come in, I'll be rockin the passthru everywhere I go :)

FlipnOut - dood, you lost me when you started talking about a boost regulator 8-o

I'm fairly technical, except when it comes to the actual inner workings of electrical devices. Soldering is also a weak area, as my friend's old xbox can attest to  That being said, I'll need to save my sanity and burned fingertips and get something made by people that know what they are doing...

But in any event, thanks for the info, and best of luck in the new year!

And thanks again to doots and PawPaw. About to place an order and give the 3.7/6v combo a try.

Just so Y'all know, V4L has been working on a few special projects which will BLOW your heads off, and made By us, For our V4L Family.

Yes, It will be available soon, and be Very Portble. As for the 5 volt range, our Passthru's already get you there, and those, as well are being upgraded. These are also the least expensive 5 volts on the planet:thumbs:

Take a chill, and V4L will give Y'all a THRILL:p

Enjoy

I'm definitely looking forward to it Steve. No matter what, you can count on an order from me for whatever you guys come out with. With the great experiences I've had personally with V4L, and the countless stories that others have, I'm positive it will be a success.

Btw - Big thanks to V4L for the goodies in my most recent order. Those nigh-unbearable conference calls at work will be much better now that I have an extra PT for use at my desk ;)
