Hello everyone. I've been hanging out mostily in the PIF community. Didn't even know you all were here.

My story... I don't smoke. My wife and I have a home for women who are in recovery. I started looking into eCigs because we have girls who smoke. I heard about this alternative and thought it might be a great way for them to either transition full time or temporary while they quit. We don't put pressure on them to quit. We leave that up to the Lord. But we are honest with them. (to be frank... they stink.) They have to find work and smoking in Orange County, CA is anethema to some employers.

Our ladies are dealing with enough to have to worry about quitting right now. So we approach it from .... costs less, smells better, fewer or no carcinogens... overall cleaner.

I posted some time ago on the Newbie forum and it was picked up and transferred to Pay It Forward forum. They really ran with it. I recieved lots of donations of eCigs, juice, advice etc. SmokeStik and another forum VaporTalk really stepped up with kits and lots of individuals too numerous to mention by name. (but they know how much we appreciate them).

So, I'm off on a new adventure and trying to help the women in our charge. We appreciate your prayers.

edit.... looking around... I see a few of you in here that I recognize. Nice to see you again.

Welcome, HyOnLyph!

I will keep you in my prayers! What you and your wife are doing is truly a blessing to those recovering!! If I understand you right, you work with recovering drug addicts? I have a family member who has struggled with drug addiction for several years. It is a horrible thing, but there is hope. I thank God for folks like you who take the time and effort to show compassion and help those who are in recovery. God Bless you!!

truckinlady... thanks for your prayers. Yes we work with women in addiction and also recovering from other "stuff". Women in addiction often suffer from other trauma's. So we try to help with the whole person. My wife and I live in the home. We tried having a full time person run it but that didn't work. We just couldn't be there when they really needed us. When a person is in a crisis... you can't say "wait 30 minutes while I drive over". It's pretty amazing how the same issues in addiction are the ones we face in everyday life, they've just chosen a different means of coping. But in truth, it's just another defense mechanism.... albeit more destructive.

I appreciate your prayers. I pray your family member finds a path that allows him/her to accept and trust in the love of God.

I'm glad to here your not pressuring the women to quit. I'm sure they want to smell better and be more healthy but if cigarette smoking keeps them calm and helps them stay off drugs I would almost insist that they smoke (but outside). My oldest daughter has been on & off drugs (her father is a drug addict) but when she smoked it seemed to help her and when she quit she got back on the hard core stuff. I would appreciate prayers for her because she is probably on drugs again now and is in a marriage with another drug addict and has a baby. I am thankful for people like yourself that share Christ with those who are really in need.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I will definitely pray for her. (and you too if you don't mind) I know it can be really hard to be the parent of an addict. It is so hard to watch them go down a path that you know will only make life harder. We've had women come to us from different states just to get away from their environment.

re: smoking and addiction. Sometimes it's difficult to justify. But we figure, one step at a time.

I have to admit that the ecig option is not taking off like I thought it would. I figured the ladies would jump at the chance to quit shoving tar and smoke into their lungs. But with addicts, it's all about building them up so that "feelings" (fear) doesn't over-ride good sense.

God bless you. If you ever want to talk, just PM me.

I am battleing quitting the analogs myself eventhough I have been a Christian for nearly 40 years. My father smoked and one day when I was haveing a huge asthma attack he lit the fireplace and he and some friends started smoking amazingly I fell asleep a woke up still alive. I didn't think much of it until after a couple of years as a smoking teen I decided to quit. My asthma came back with a fury along with bronchitis. I started smoking again with a divorce from my first husband after almost 10 years of not smoking. I quit again after marrying my non-smoking Christian husband and got all kinds of problems including psoriatic arthritis. We were on vacation and a waitress that was obviously older than myself who wreeked of cigarette was cheerfully running around waiting tables without a hint of arthritis as most of the non-smoking people her age. My non-smoking husband even recommended that I pick the smokes back up and it immediately helped both my skin condition and the arthritis. I haven't got the right formula for my e cigs yet but it will have some sort of tobacco extract because I believe I need something other than the nicotine. Possibly the sulfur compounds in tobacco.

Thank you for your prayers for both my daughter and myself.

Be patient. It takes a while for some of us to find what works. I'll let you know what works for me when I find it. LOL There is more than just nicotine in cigarettes that our bodies can crave. Take a look at these Ariva and Stonewall Official Site | Dissovable Tobacco | Smoke Free Tobacco They are pure tobacco, finely ground and compressed into a "breathmint" They will provide the "stuff other than nicotine" that you are needing. A lot of drugstores and gas stations carry them. They are an acquired taste, to say the least. Sometimes they give me an upset stomach, but several people swear by them.

Thank you angelique for your support. It is hard to be a Christian smoker. Having been a non-smoker for years and then a closet smoker of sorts I've heard the things others say about smokers thinking I was not one. Spurgeon was a medicinal smoker and a great man used by God. He wrote a moveing series called "The Tresury of David" which is a deep commentary on the Psalms. People don't realize that tobacco has been used medicinally for centuries. Many farmers still use tobacco as a natural wormer for farm animals or put tobacco on a bad bug bit or sting. I told my doctor not to perscribe the anti-depressant that he was going to put me on because I had started smoking and it was offering relief. He didn't lecture me at all. He just said o.K. There is a lot of alarmist attitude toward smoking but not toward heavy perscription drugs that many people use that are just as dangerous if not more so. Here's a couple links that show some medicinal uses of the past.

It's ok, Jesus loves you anyway :):)

Start with vaping to get you off all of the other chemicals in your regular cigarettes. That could take a short time, or a long time. Everyone is different.

I"m giving myself another 6 months and then I'm going to give up my vaping too. I don't want to be addicted to any substance at all, including nicotine. It's going to be VERY DIFFICULT, and I don't even know if I will succeed or not, but that's my long term goal.
