According to West Coast Vapers Club (the one's hosting the event), the Hilton rooms are vape-friendly!

It's kinda funny that I live in SoCal and yet have never heard of this so-called West Coast Vapers Club... who were also referring to themselves as the "official" vapers association in SoCal (although I noticed that they have removed that statement from the ECC website)... LOL!!

They have no presence on the internet... not a website nor Facebook page... and I also think it was no accident that they jumped the gun on Vapetoberfest here so they could call themselves the "FIRST Electronic Cigarette Expo in Southern California"!!

Nope, I will NOT be going to the ECC, but hope to see you all in October at the one in Long Beach!! :D

You sound paranoid LOL!

West Coast Vapers Club has a private/closed group on Facebook, and they organized the sb648 rallies in Sacramento that had representatives from over 50 socal vape shops and vendors. They are the ones that are spending big money to protect CA vapers' rights by hiring lobbyists and political correspondents. So just because you haven't heard much about them doesn't say much. Like I said, it's mainly a private/closed group by invite to people on the "in." They've also recently filed for non-profit status for financial transparency which I think is super cool. They are extremely organized and it shows in their ability to bring rival shop owners together to show unity in Sacramento. It also shows in their ability to pack Dave & Busters with mainly socal shop owners for private meets, and it obviously shows in their ability to host such a massive event at a huge venue like the Anaheim Convention Center. If you don't want to go then that's cool. I just don't see why you feel like it's your crusade to discourage others from going. Just don't go. It's not like the 6000+ other vapers in attendance or the 150 vendors are going to have a crappy time if you skip out. If you have personal beef with someone, squash it. Life is much better when it's lived less bitterly :)

Las Vegas and Anaheim are about 250 miles from each other. Remember some people have limited transportation and time restraints. So it's easier for them to attend at one location vs the other. If I lived in Orange County I'd most likely be going to the Anaheim meet and same if I lived in the greater Las Vegas area.

I have no skin in this game, I'm not going to either ...not because of politics, but because I can't afford to travel half-way across the country.

Be that as it may ...dude, this 'club' (or whatever) sounds like a bunch of closed-off, elitist phallic organs who clearly see this "movement" as an financial opportunity, nothing else. "Spending big money to protect CA vapers' rights" is just good marketing. For whatever 'good' they've done, you can bet they didn't do it for for the vaping community, they did it for themselves. While it is not hard proof, this information most certainly doesn't help your argument that there was no ill-intention in their scheduling practices and, frankly, thinking it's "super cool" that they claim non-profit status for "transparency" is, literally, quite laughable.

...and I'm just a regular guy on a forum with an opinion that doesn't mean squat.

Me... Paranoid??? I'm not the one holding secret meetings, or with a "private" group on Facebook... LMAO!!

But bikerbeagle took the words right out of my mouth... ;)

I totally agree with you!! :thumb:

Plus they also act like CASAA doesn't exist and/or had anything to do with helping out here in CA with all of their "Calls to Action" they sent out... AND sending people to Sacramento to speak at the hearings. THEY are the ones who have non-profit status, and rightfully so!!

Wow! This is good to see. I noticed that the rooms at the Hilton are all non smoking. I wonder if they allow vaping?

I think I am a rule flaunter by nature. I also think I have just coined a phrase that does not exist in this or any other language.
I was recently a guest at a hotel and was in a non-smoking room by choice. I did not ask about vaping and I did vape. I have always said that it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission in some circumstances. I look at it this way: Vaping does not bother DH who is death on cigarette smoke in his environment. Vaping leaves a great aroma in the air, much better than the cleaners these hotels use! The vapor dissipates so quickly that no one even knows you have vaped and it really just doesn't hurt anything/anyone.

This was at a family reunion. I vaped among my non-smoking, non-drinking (you get the picture! But some of the greatest people on this earth) type family and I reserved some dragon fruity flavors for the occasion. Folks were excited that I was no longer smoking and loved the aromas. I think vaping passed the acid test in this setting!

Now, for the reason for this thread. I have spent way too much time in CA. I would love to attend a vapemeet and I will someday. Just not in CA. I drive a truck. CA is VERY unfriendly to trucks. I just can't go there in good conscience at this time. Not to mention, they say my truck is too old as of 12/31/13. Yep. CA legislates how old your equipment can be to enter their state. Dang them! I am all for resolving the air quality issue in CA but would really like to see the cars be decreased on their highways first. Oh my. Rush hour in LA is a treat, is it not?

While true, anybody that lives in Southern California knows that Las Vegas is pretty much our backyard playground.

Yeah, non-profit doesn't mean they're doing it for free and going home without a paycheck. Non-profit just means you pay yourself more so the corp doesn't show a "profit". And yes i understand that non-profits can show profit, just can't be their intention to do so, have to have cash on hand to operate but i don't know any paycheck to paycheck non-profiters.

"The end result is that many won't go to either because all of the vendors can't be at both, and .. at best .. the vaping community will be split between the two so that vendors only get half the chances to sell their products. So you tell me how it can be a good thing .... for anyone."

Yup!

How many vendors have staffs to keep their sales going and attend two meets the same weekend? Very few. But, since LA has a zillion Mom and Pop B&M's, maybe they will close up shop and have booths?

I don't know the politics and I don't really know who "set the date" first. I heard about them in a very different sequence. First was Long Beach in October. This debacle sure has dampened my interest in ALL of them....and I pre-registered!
