Did you tell them about this forum, and CAASA?

I did, and encouraged them to check both out. I'm not sure that it mattered much, after I brought up the deeming regulations and advised them of ecf and CAASA they just started complaining about the govt (which I get). They didn't seem too interested in finding out more info or what they can do to at least try and prevent or influence what is going on.

It looks like I'm going to learn how to extract nicotine from the pipe tobacco I no longer use. I have some burly, and some Red Virginia. None of has overly artificial flavors added. The Virginia has some perique in it as well (high nicotine).

I'm sure I will still be able to get dark fired Kentucky burly, which has the highest nicotine content. I am kind of wondering how much nic I will be able to get out of it?

I kind of wonder too, what the flavor of extracted nic will be from pipe tobacco?

I need good advice on extraction. Any suggestions?

Edit: FDA scare or not, I really don't want to waste that tobacco, it's premium!

Here you go. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/liquid-extraction-tobacco/
I read most of scarf-ace's thread. She's got a lot of great experiments and results in there.

I'm not really scared, I'm more PO'd than anything, and a bit anxious about stocking up enough. If it was just me, I'd be fine. But I got at least 3 other people to quit cigs and I care about them enough to get a bit (or a lot) more supplies than I'd need for myself. I know they won't do it and would go back to smoking.

As a long time pipe smoker, burly is the highest in nicotine. The lower leaves are the best. Go to Blending Pipe Tobacco By The Ounce. This is where I used to get my tobacco from. They are great people too, very knowledgeable, and friendly.

I don't know which tobacco variety has the highest nicotine. The nicotine also varies by where the leaves appear on the plant. Commercial tobacco producers save the nicotine extracted when washing the leaves. They spray that nicotine concentrate back onto the lower grade product to maintain a uniform nicotine content in finished tobacco blends.

It's going to be a lot of trouble to extract nicotine from tobacco at the DIY level.

It hasn't happened yet so how could I be scared, and if it does I think angry and some other words would more accurately describe my feelings.

Chill and have a vape, if the FDA does something crazy make it a huge media story since the public outcry will do more than any lawyer can.

Of the FDA?? Maybe I should be, but I like being fearless. Much nicer lifestyle, IMHO.

I have just a few batteries, a few cartos, and a small amount of 12mg. nic.

I laugh at them now, and I'll still be laughing while I'm boiling down ciggies to make my own juice.:)

It's not the FDA I'm scared of. We all know they don't know their butts from a hole in the ground. What scares me is what each state will do in terms of how much tax is imposed. I believe MN is going after 110% right now...THAT'S THE PART that has me worried when it comes to new people just starting to vape. Me, I'm old school so I have my bases covered plus I DIY. People need to start pushing mechanical mods and DIY'ing to even newbies.

It would be very good for us if the FDA is as stupid as you hope.
Because if they are smart they'll just shut down free-roaming nicotine.

That would be pretty much game over.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks who don't see how they could possibly pull that off.
But I suspect that they have plenty of ways to make it happen.

Was it deer in the "deer in the headlights" reaction?

I now have a many yr supply of nic preserved via waterbath method & my son is making me a mech mod (or 3 HeHe)from parts found @ Radio shack. I know that without vaping I would go right back with smoking & that is what frightens me. I hope none of my vaping friends have to resort to that

Ya chucked it in the creek?? Lol.

I'm not scared anymore, not since I stocked up on nic. I don't have as much as some people. But, it's enough to give me a buffer just in case. And, I DIY already so it's not much more than just my regular once a year purchase.

I doubt it's going to be a problem anyway. But, the ignorance of the world constantly amazes me. So, better safe than sorry!

I would have to agree with Hairball...
I think new Vapers should at least consider mechanical mods and DIY....

if not just because of the convinence and savings- and our wonderful 'System'...
it would also foster American inovation and DIY skills indepenence !

I LOVE to see the crazy things people can make themself's...
you know...US 'Mad Scientists and Inventors !'

I don't think they'll shut it down but I look for them to try their best to get states to tax us to death. Am I worried about the pact act of 2007, yes but I don't think they'll enforce it...too much money for the government to be made.

From where I sit they make more money, more easily, by shutting us down.

The money they would get from us is not a "new" income stream, it is merely a replacement for the money they already get.
And not only that, but it is money that would be much harder to justify than what they are already getting.

scared? why should any of US be scared. if they ban ecigs then i dont think it will be the user and the vendors that will be scared...

in all seriousness, theyll probably end up releasing some list of recommended regulations a month or few months after the deadline they've set, and it will take some more hearings and committees and studies to get it rolling so we'll have some more time. unfortunately, all this doomsday stuff the press has been making the sequester out to be, is a bunch of bull, and we wont even notice it, not even for things like new ecig regulations
