Why .5 increments? I like to fine tune.

Like Rader said, .5 is not too far off from what you would get using .1V adjustments on a VV device.

So, if you want a finer adjustment, you can switch from VW to VV on your device, and just figure out your desired power using Ohm's Law.

ohmslawcalculator.com

Now, as far as WHY they go in .5W increments, my guess would be that .1W increments would not be enough to register any appreciable difference in voltage that the meter built into the device could detect because they only measure voltage to the tenth's place and round up (I haven't seen any reviews that would indicate that they ever round down). For example...

a 2.5 Ohm coil @ 8W should use 4.47214V - The device would round up to 4.5V
a 2.5 Ohm Coil @ 8.1W should use 4.5V

So to the device, there would be no change in voltage from 8W to 8.1W

And depending on the Ohm value of the coil attached, the voltage increments would change. So, I would imagine the .5W increments were based on 1) No appreciable difference to the volt meter at lower increments, and 2) allows for a wider range of attachment resistance values.

You guys make really valid points. I'm still curious if they save money by doing it that way.

Part of my reason of my post is I'm debating getting a Vamo for 18350 mode for out and about. I love my provari but it is a bit big and heavy in my pocket and I don't want to spend a lot for a mini.

I would figure that the number of increments have a role in it. 0.1w increments would make for 120 increments from 3w to 15w where 0.5w is only 24. In VV mode, you have 30 increments from 3.0v to 6.0v.

Definitely a good point. Never thought of it that way.

I was debating getting the vamo or a telescope that I'd kick with the 18350. I wonder which one is shorter.

EricHill78,
I can tell you that my SS VAMO is almost exactly 4 inches in 18350 mode and I find it easy to cover the entire device in one hand. It is also easy to stow and go which is why I wanted it too. I considered a telescope with kick too. They may be shorter and I can't say. I do like to bump my heat up or down a bit depending on juice and so that made the VAMO the best choice for me. I also think you'll find the VAMO cheaper all said and done but that may not be a issue for you as it was not an issue for me.

Good deal, 4 inches would be fine in my pocket. If I do get it ill definitely get the SS version. The gun metal looks slick but I heard it comes off easily.

Just a thought, you could put your ProV up for trade for a mini in the Classifieds? I was on the fence between a full size or a mini and I kept looking at my BB and my LT, I like to carry around the BB a LOT more than I like to carry my LT!

The SS version is solid as a tank. It is sort of plain and I found using valve lapping or car paint compound to do wonders for the threads.
I suppose I could complain the threading isn't buttery smooth when I got it but I spent 10-15 minutes and they were sweet.
The batteries may rattle but I haven't found that to be a problem and if I did it is a simple thing to fix. Unless I later find some issue I think it is a phenomenal value at the prices that are going around.

If someone would customize some SS versions with a matte finish and widen the barrel enough to fit the Kanger T3 I'd buy it.

So far I'm very happy with it and would buy it again for sure.

Ha, good point. But I'm probably keeping my regular provari cause I plan to get the 18650 ext for longer battery life at home. Now if the Mini had a cap for the 18650 that would be great. I think I read someone in Greece made one though. I don't know the cost.

Thanks for the input. I bet a piece of a business card may help with the rattle issue if the rattle ever gets on your nerves.

It's about $40 and three weeks to get to the US, I want one BAD, but can't seem to pull the trigger! I'm getting 6hrs out of the 18350's so I'm pretty happy with that so far.
There is another adapter, I'll have to find the link again, that fits the mini and you can use 18500's or 18650's, but it's chrome and kinda funky looking to me.

Ha yeah I think that is the same adapter I am thinking about. I saw it in a thread where they showed this cool looking cap goes on the 510 connection that makes it look like some sort of a hybrid. Maybe someone will have a link for us.

The only thing that is keeping me from the lower cost pvs that I want to purchase for out and about is that the wattage is only adjustable in. 5 increments. Is there a reason for this? Is it less expensive to produce?

I don't know, I have been using a Buzz Pro and it's not limited to the increments you spoke of. I wouldn't be vaping had it not been for that. BTW I've been using it without incident for a couple yrs. I do have some other variables I built that I use too.
