don't get discouraged - it takes some people longer than others. What you need to do is while your holding your analog in one hand hold your PV in the other. Take one hit from one the next hit from the other continue alternating. After doing that for awhile take one hit from the analog and 2 hits from your PV. Slowly build up your use. Remember you didn't start out smoking a pack a day. Take a deep breath remind your self that you'll get to the finish line eventually.
Best of luck you can do what ever you truly set your mind to.

It does make me cough..

Try to lighten the hit then. There are few things you can do to accomplish this. The first is to try different inhalation methods. I found that at first I was treating it like an analog, big mistake. It's not an analog it's an e-cig. You should take a slow long pull, bringing it into your mouth then inhaling deep.

The next idea is to change flavors. Some flavors give a bigger "throat hit" than others. It could be just the flavoring is hitting you too hard. NOTE: throat hit and vapor production do not necessarily coincide like they do with analogs.

Check to see if you are having an adverse response to PG or VG (whichever you are using). Try the other base out.

Try a "straw mod". I've done this mod myself to increase vapor production but I noticed that as a result I get a much smoother hit, it helps.

When all else fails - browse, browse, browse - this website has a metric crap-ton of information besides what you'll see posted in this thread. Many people have faced the same issue you are and have conquered it. It's up to you to find the thread and see how they fixed it, maybe it'll work for you.

Remind yourself of the reasons you want to switch.

You might want to pick up a nice menthol juice; it's less harsh yet has a nice throat hit. The menthol has a soothing effect on the throat.

Tell yourself you don't have to choose. There's a reason most people actually wind up preferring the e-cig -- it actually DOES taste a lot better. Have confidence that you're going to be happy with it and gradually change over.

Another thing you can do is buy a pack of cigarettes and only smoke one or two, then toss them.

Hang in there!

Thank you all for the great advice. What is the "Straw Mod" ? That sounds like a good idea. I had menthol juice in the beginning which I haven't tried in awhile...I'll try it again.

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!

Moobyghost's Straw Mod Video - intended to give you better vapor production but I've found as a side effect gives a much smoother hit (easier on the throat/lungs).

P.S.- cut a syringe style tip on both ends. He hasn't updated that in this video but it's a better way.

Ease into it. You are not required to quit smoking the day you get the first kit. Pick it up, and take a few puffs, then continue smoking. Gradually, you will probably prefer vaping to smoking, but it does not happen like that for everyone. I got one almost a full year before I actually got into using the e cig. I would pick it up sometimes, but I was not smitten. I also recall some coughing in the beginning, and I have never coughed with cigarettes. Over time, I started using it more and more until I was using the e cig far more than I was smoking. Now, I smoke a couple a day and vape the rest. It's the best I can do at the moment, and I am very happy with the change.

 That's an understatement!

I find that flavor and nicotine level has alot to do with throat hit for me. What PV you use also makes a difference. My M402 (IntelliCig) hits pretty hard with most juices but my 8084 (84mm) mini is much, much smoother. I also usually stick to low nicotine juices (14mg or less). Works for me, might help you out too.

uhhhh. she needs to start over, we have no idea if her equipment is even working right, if the equipment is screwy, she'll never get it going....clearly, we have the info she needs, it took me two months to be able consistently count on my pv....remember the golden phase....."learning curve" :)...it could be something as atty primer...."everytime I put on a new atty, I get the same bad taste" How many times have we heard that one?

It seems that most people don't just drop the cigs on day 1... I tried 3 diff e-cigs and was still sneaking smokes here & there for many weeks. On the day I got my first screwdriver I quit looking to sneak a smoke and haven't looked back - it just happened. Be patient with yourself.

Don't get discouraged yet and don't expect it to happen overnight. Once you get the right unit for you with the right juice and are ready it will just happen. Good luck!!!

I know you hear a lot of people say they tried an e-cig and quit that day, but the as has been mentioned that isn't the reality for many people. It took me two week of pretty consistent use to switch for good and I think that is also pretty quick for most people. I would suggest you change your mind set about the e-cig. Think of it as something that will let you smoke in places you would normally smoke (for me that included in my house) and don't even concern yourself with quitting. Then take some time to learn how the e-cig works. Watch a few videos and try a few different ways to inhale. For example, you really need to take longer slower pulls and with an automatic battery this takes some practice since you need to control your breath to keep the switch on, but slow and long enough to get a good hit. I often end up with a combination of a mouth and lung hit that is now second nature but took time to figure out. Keep smoking when you can while you are doing this and don't beat yourself up for smoking. I think that as you get the hang of the e-cig you will find yourself smoking less. At some point when you are smoking less than you are vaping you can make the decision to switch over. There is some will power at this point but it is far easier.
Also it would help to know which gear you use and if there are any specific issues. People are willing to help if they know what the problem is.

You might want to try the VG instead... I was on PG for a few weeks before I tried the VG... Lots of people says its easier on the throat.. I did find that it worked for me. I still smoke analogs here and there.. A lot of people here know I tried to quit right away and failed and it hurt...But it takes a minute to get used to the way you take a drag, how deep you inhale, how long you drag, if you inhale...there were so many little things that I just had to adjust..but only little things it was about 4 weeks before I got the hang of it. When at home now I smoke analogs, when out for the day I just take my e-cig. Everyone is way different how they smoke it.. You will do fine, but look into VG it is much easier on the throat..helped my cough to the point I don't have one..:D

my bf started out on menthol and all he did was cough. same thing with mint. when he switched to turkish blend or even marlboro, he was fine. something in that menthol, maybe the menthol crystals, made him almost cough up a lung.
i agree, try different flavors, buy a sample package if you dont want to invest a lot...many supplies let you get 5 small bottles or whatever. that may be your best bet.
good luck.
