I've read I can top up the cartridges with 2/3 drops of ejuice and a cartridge should last say 2/3 days. Why is that? What goes wrong with the cartridge after this time? Mine still look the same as they did when I first got them.

Thats fine then if it still works for you. What a lot of people find is that after lots of use the wool starts to discolour, and it seems to get worse at transferring the liquid to the atomiser. When it gets like this you can remove the filler and wash it with water, and that sometimes fixes it.
I know for me, after 2-3 days, the juice starts to taste "funny". That's when I pop in a new cart. But I also smoke a lot and top off a lot so less use may end up in the cart lasting longer. Just go by what tastes good for you!

If a cartridge starts to discolor or get a funny taste to it I just use tweezers to pull out the material and then wash it. I re-stuff the cartridge and fill it back up and keep on puffing. It just get annoying after awhile and it seems like the material doesn't do as nice a job of wicking after a couple of times. I know some other members have mentioned this as well.
Thanks for the replies, I learn something new all the time here. I'm off to wash and fluff my cartridges...Why don't they just sell new stuff to go inside the cartridge? The expense of them is surely in the plastic part.

If they sold just the filling would be lot cheaper? But it a bit fiddly depends on individual I suppose, but for the cost I think it easier just use a new empty cart but that imo? There several people that have tried alternative materials for filling if you do a search, I am finding I just use a cartridge a day then throw away (but my e-cig never out of my hand ha ha)

The polyester fiber loses its ability to absorb after a couple of days and washing the core does not seem to help and good luck trying to get the water to dryout after you wash it. Try getting a roll of polyester batting at any fabric store or Walmart. It looks, feels, and wicks just like the original and, at least some of use here think it is the exact same think. I just cut it to fit and at 7 dollars for a 5 foot roll --that makes about a years worth of cores.
Hmmm.... good info on trying other material for the cores. I had just started pulling them out and washing them. I was thinking I'd save money that way. But if the originals don't absorb properly, then maybe I'll try your alternatives.

I find that I rarely ever change carts. I alternate between two, mint and vanilla. Usually just top off an I'm good.
I wash the fiber and what not but I'm with JHerandez, unless I change flavor I just keep topping off the cart until it doesn't fit right (901)
It's easier not to take out the sponge and just flush the water straight through the cartridge.
