I've been looking at getting a little nicer setup so I've joined a few groups out there where the buy sell and trade mods. Why are people selling mechs for over double what they originally cost? And why are people buying them? I don't wanna sound cheap when I say Ill give you 20% off of retail for a used mod but thats really how they should depreciate right.

Alot of it depends on what is the flavor of the month and availability. A lot of the more "desirable" mods are hard to acquire at retail price to begin with and there is a bunch of flippers also that when they able to purchase these mods they buy a few to sell at marked up prices. I wouldn't pay over retail for a used product but that's me. Others may want something bad enough that they'll pay a huge huge premium for it. More power to them.

There is a classified thread here at ECF, but first you have to get verified here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/announcements-news/283955-how-become-verified-member.html

Once your verification is approved, you can then visit the classified section. Yes there are a lot of high end devices for sale, but there are also reasonable items which will enhance your vaping experience and not break your wallet. Unless something is "rare" or "unavailable" there are rules set in place for what people can charge for their items.

Of course, any purchase you make is still at your own risk, but by pming the seller/trader you can make your own informed decision. Hope this helps in some way.

I've tried verifying my paypal which is linked to my bank account but for some reason it wont verify my paypal account (says they will send me a text to confirm it but I never receive the text), I have an ebay account but I think I've only bought about 12 things off of ebay and they require 50 positive reviews so that options out. I don't personally know anyone on here so that ones out and the final option takes 6 months of being a member with 10 positive selling reviews but don't you have to be verified to sell anyway? I'm sure ill figure something out.

When I signed up I made the mistake of providing a different email addy than the one on my PP account. Joker sent me a pm and told me what the problem was, I corrected it and submitted another request and everything worked perfectly. You can contact j0ker to see what the problem is.

I dont think I needed to add a banking account to my paypal. I dont even have a banking account. I just had to link my paypal to ecf. Its not that hard and the classifieds here are nice for the occasional deal. Why do people buy new cars when in 4 to 5 years their remaining balance and interest will cost more than what they can buy their car for used? I don't get it. Sense of ownership? Pride?

Anways I'm glad mods retain their value. I'm glad you can buy a Provari for $160 and sell it 4 years later for $150. A lot of these mods can only be had by waiting on lists. The makers only have small machine shops, or they only have so much capitol. So people get on the waiting list, and other people are out of the know about the waiting list, and other people are too busy for a waiting list/co-op... And if these people have enough money, they buy the mod from resellers at 300x the original price. Good for them. People buy used Provaris for only a few dollars off because Provape occassionally has a pretty long (1 week or so) processing time, + en-rout shipping. This was especially true when you ordered a colored model and a colored LED. So people go to the classifieds, find the custom provari they want for the same price it is on provape website, and they buy it bcuz they will receive it in 3-4 days. This is the same deal with the expensive mech mods. Some of them come from other countries with 30 dollar shipping. So people want it right now, they want it in 3 days. So they pay 100 bucks extra for it to be in their mailbox in 3 days.

I think that market scheme is just going to lead people to buying clones. Its nice that if you buy something you can then sell it for around the purchase price but it seems a bit silly that people are will to pay 3 times retail for non limited edition/custom mods that if they just waited a few weeks would be in stock. O well i guess you can just blow however much your saving from not smoking.

I'm not up on mods and such but I'm a member of a guitar gear forum and you see the same thing there. The thing is, a lot of what's hot and desirable at the moment is coming from small cottage business and they simply can't keep up with demand. That opens up the secondary market. One example in particular I can think of is a guy building a really great pedal for guitars and he sells them for like $125.00, but you will wait 6-9 months for that pedal if you buy from him. People sell them on Ebay for much more, and they sell like hotcakes. It's just the nature of small custom business and the nature of people wanting it NOW! You could question the morality of it but IMO, it is what it is. I certainly don't think it's a "scheme".
