I've been reading about the issues people have with PG. I've only used 100 VG thus far, the one PG flavor I tried I did not like (and I just traded it away in the "trading" forum) I have some more PG on the way, and I'll try it but...

VG gives more vapor and causes fewer problems. Yes, it's thick but that has not caused me any issues.

So why do people use PG?

It's not clear what you mean by "PG causes fewer problems" - do you mean allergic reactions? Because in my experience (reiterated by many other posters):

VG clogs atties faster than PG or a predominantly-PG blend.
PG carries flavor better than VG.
PG provides more throat hit than VG.

Maybe there are other reasons but those are the big ones for me.

PG is also beneficial for the health as it kills germs that are in the lungs. PG has been used since the 50s in inhalers, nebulizers, ect. I like to use PG. I don't like high VG, so i'm very glad I have the choice. PG doesn't cause everyone issues. Some units should not have a high level of VG, like my own anyways. VG also kills flavor for some juices. More PG, more flavor. I looove having a nice puff of flavor when I vape!

PROPOLYNE GLYCOL FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PG is a thin liquid and thin liquids (PG or PG/VG but high in PG) work for every method of vaping including tanks, stuffing cartomizers, reservoir cartomizers

PG lets through the most flavor, the most nicotine TH, and the most nicotine irritation, and makes thin visible vapor.

To get rid of any irritation and to add some nice vapor, most people use blends, whatever PG/VG blends works well with their chosen method of vaping and provides the balance they want of flavor, TH, and vapor. If you are using a plain atomizer + cartridge (or drip tip on a manual sealed battery) then you can use any PG/VG as long as it flows at least as fast as you vape.

PG vapor is used by hospitals to deliver inhaled medications, even to lung transplant patients.

But 100% PG liquids often suck because they are usually cheap Chinese liquids. Some of the Chinese tobaccos are decent but any other flavors I tried were not good. And 100% PG makes very little vapor. Most decent juice (not hardware) shops offer PG/VG blends.

Some people attribute problems to PG because they've heard of PG allergies. At one time I thought I had a bad reaction to PG, but it turns out I caught the flu and ended up with bronchitis. The doctor said that quitting smoking actually aggravated the problem because my body was cleaning itself out with being sick on top of it. Now that I'm healed up, I'm having no issues and enjoying my vapage very much.

Some people have sensitivity to PG -- it's a real thing, my sister, for example, cannot even use vaseline skin lotion, due to the PG.

Equally, some people have sensitivity to VG, again a real phenomenon.

For those who tout VG as more "natural", "better", other than for those with sensitivity to PG I haven't heard of any official medical use of VG for inhalation. It doesn't make VG any worse than PG, just means that there is less (as in "no") documentation that I've heard of on how good/safe VG inhalation is. At least PG use has had some study, historically, and was used in at least some inhalation type products previously (and is still used in at least some fairly current things, like evaluation of an inhaler for lung transplant patients -- PG was used as the carrier).

If anyone has documented studies of VG inhalation showing its safety, please post them in the Health and Safety area.

PV use is a crap-shoot. I'm confident that I'm not sucking down the cancer-causing tar, and only inhaling a tiny fraction of the chemicals compared to when I smoked, but for me it's a reduction in harm, I cannot claim that everything I vape is totally harmless. Personally, I do better at running and other aerobic activities when I'm not vaping really high VG amounts -- subjective, but that's all any of us have to go on.

I agree with Markfm about the trade off between smoking and vaping, the only reason i switched is when i tried my buddies ego i enjoyed it and got just about the same experience as from smoking and it was cheaper. not to mention putting it to big tobacco in my own way. not a jab that they will ever feel but at least i know.
I don't like the 100% pg though because instead of th it feels like it burns. However if i go to an 80/20 mix i get th without the burn, great flavor, and vapor.

Some substances for flavoring don't dissolve well with VG, or maybe vise versa. That's all I know.

;-)
I've experienced that with high VG juices too. You get a strong shot of one of the flavors in the juice on a vape. Remedy is simple (learned in DIY forum). Put your juice in a ziplock bag and let it sit in a bowl of hot water. That will meld the flavors together faster. I'm not sure that's the right word but it blends everything together and it tastes better faster. Give it a shake and vape.

Well, I've been a menthol smoker all my smoking life. I found out that menthol crystals don't dissolve with VG. VG, I thought, is all I ever needed when concocting my own juice. Then I ordered menthol crystals and had to wait weeks before the small package appeared in my door only to find out that they don't mix well with VG. Well, they don't mix at all. I searched and searched the net and found out that PG is the right combo for the crystals. I waited again for weeks for the postman to arrive and hand me the 500 ml PG I ordered online. I expected nothing dramatic, but, lo and behold, PG plus a pinch of menthol crystals mixed well like they're long lost friends!

With menthol a little pg is a good thing
But I am a VG vaper, 100% 90%...sometimes I will go down to 50/50 depending on the vendor. Sure some PG juices have stronger flavors than some VG juices (that is not a guarantee though) but I find the most complex flavors are in VG blends...and I love those thick clouds of rolling vapor. :vapor:

not all VG is devoid of TH, Alien Visions hype has a pretty darn good TH, so much so I went to make sure it wasn't a pg blend.

At higher watts I rarely use VG (probably why I only do 6v for testing purposes) sometimes it does not translate well at all to the hotter vapes. Just as well use DK-Tab at that point.
