ok, so, to get this start i just need to say i have my AGA-t2 and its the best tank ever, but i also like to have other tanks like my vivi novas for backup and quick juice swap. with this in mind i bought some fiberglass wick after reading some good things about it. i had only used silica wicks before and am accustom to the taste (i don't really taste anything besides a muted flavor of juice compared to the AGA-t2 with its SS mesh). so my question is... did i do something wrong?

i replaced one of my vivi nova heads with the silica wick and kanthal 33 gage. i test for shorts, comes out to 2.8ohms and fires properly. i pour in some juice let it sit for 10 minutes just in-case it didn't wick fast enough. i start to vape it and immediately notice a dank aftertaste to ALL of the juices I've tried with the fiberglass wick. to best describe what it is i taste, it has an after taste of something like the smell of balsa wood (at-least the best way i can describe it.

it happens to all my juices from mild fruity flavors to harsh wintergreen flavors. I'm very disappointed i got 30 feet of this and i can barely stand using 1 wick for its lifespan. (it was cheep but even then)..

so the clarify my question:

why does it taste weird, and is there any prep i need to do to the wick if that's why it taste off?
because as of right now I'm just gonna stick to my 1 ss mesh tank till I can get silica wicks or find out why my fiberglass wick has an aftertaste of dank wood. (its not just my wick, my friend bought a vivi nova head replacement that had a fiberglass wick and it taste the same way, he even complains about the off taste)

Keep in mind that each wick has its own odor, and its own way of 'rendering' flavors, so you can only try and mitigate the problem - but probably not eliminate it 100%.

You may try to boil the silica wick, so to remove most chemicals from it; I'd recommend to boil it at least twice, some 10 mins per pass, changing water and rinsing afterwards.

If it still keeps that off smell, there's little else you can do I'm afraid...
