First I have 2 vv batt a ego and a vision. I have a viva nova v2 and a kanger pro tank 2. Iam trying to figure out what I am doing wrong that the eliquid taste is bad. I have not found a eliquid that really tastes good maybe it is my taste buds. Most other people seem not to have a problem. I have tried tobacco, fruit, dessert and my favorite flavor vanilla. This bad taste is about the same with the viva nova or the kanger pro tank I have tried different settings on the vv batt. The taste lingers in my mouth and mouth wash will not remove it. I was reading in one of the threads about manufacture finish that might cause the taste I have used the ecig enough that it should have burned away. I have smoked for 50+ yrs so maybe it is my taste buds or is the flavor completely different from say eating a candy bar or ice cream something I will have to acquire a taste for. But one particular taste comes through on the flavors. Most of the the treads are locked on your forum I do not know if I have done something wrong to cause this I apologize for anything I have done for causing this to happen. I do not know how to navigate your sight very well. Any help with this would very much appreciated because I am trying very hard to get off reg cig.I think now I have the equipment now I need to find a eliquid or figure out what is causing this taste. Thanks

There can be many reasons for a bad taste or no taste - dozens, and maybe too many to cover. Anyway here are a few:

no taste
Smoker's tongue: can't really taste anything much. Gets better.

Vaper's tongue: hits after about a couple of months. Can't tastes anything for a week. Soon clears up. Switch around to avoid getting vaper's tongue: swap around between flavours, heads and power settings.

Lo-flavour hardware: some heads just don't give much flavour, or they work best with certain types of flavour.

The reference / benchmark) head is a 510 atomiser - you drip some of a new liquid into it, to get the full taste without having to fill a tank. You may have to try out 2 or 3 but eventually you'll get a 510 atty that has the purest and cleanest flavour of any kind of head (it doesn't mute or distort flavours). To prepare a new and unused 510 atty correctly, it's a good idea to flush it with alcohol (any ethanol will do, for example vodka), then flush it with 80-20 VG-water. Just blow it through onto paper towel, no need to dry it out. Place on a VV device, drip 4 drops onto the bridge, put on a driptip, set the volts low and gradually build up (varies according to the atty ohms), puff it till it gives out good vapour & taste. The taste is pure and unmodified, unlike the result from many other kinds of heads.

bad taste
The most common reasons are a new head with manky stuff in it; or feeding in too much power before the wick has wetted out enough, leading to burning it.

New head (atty, carto, tank, clearo, whatever) - double-flush it through as for the 510 atty above.

First fill-up: fill your clearo or whatever then shake it, turn it, leave it for a couple of minutes; then draw on it with no power (suck but don't hit the button); then power it up starting at low volts. That way you have cleaned it out, wetted it, then fired it up slow. It should be OK done like that.

Some flavours don't work in some heads though - nothing will fix that.

Roly is spot on with his advice. Another thing to add, your vendor. Are you getting all your eliquid from one vendor? It may be time to look around for another, many vapers have their own personal favorites and may hate others.

Finding a vendor and flavor that hits your sweet spot can be one of the toughest parts of starting out vaping. If you can get some easily, you could even try unflavored, it's slightly sweet, with a nice finish, and gives your taste buds time to recover from the years of smoking. It can take several weeks or months, depending on how long you smoked, for me 40+ years and forever to recover my taste buds...:)

p.s. Welcome to ECF!! :toast:

All the above.

If you have a local shop with reach, go there. Many of them have vape bars where you can taste test a variety of flavors. That's about the best (i.e. cheapest) way to at least find what types you like. And don't worry about sticking with just one flavor. Most of us have many and switch off during the day.

Some flavors will "crack" or etch some tanks. The PT is pyrex so not susceptible to that, but the Vivi is probably plastic. Once that sets in, no getting rid of the bad taste.

If the bad taste is now gunked onto the coil, you can try a new coil, or search out how to clean and dry burn your device. (Actually a pretty simple process, but have some spare heads until you get it down. Just in case. And you should always have spares, anyway.)

Oh, and nothing you've done wrong. Many of the Vets areas area accessible only to vets. :)
