Between the center post and the mesh wick..it just flashes and that's it....but before I pulsed it I checked the ohms and all 3 times were between 1.8-3.2 soooooooo what am I doing wrong? I have it under the negative screw, wrapped around oxidized wick, then tightened down on top center post...and just flashes like a light bulb going out "poof".

Then I decided to try it without the coil and just wrapped around a dail, stuck it in the wicking hole, pulled the nail out to leave just coils and BAM! They glowed perfect....so I stick a wick in and it pops between the center post and top of the wick??? I'm using 32 kanthal and 400 ss mesh if that makes a difference....is their an easier way or can somebody coach me up please?

If you have any extra SS wick try oxidizing it some more the your previous wick. Start with a empty tank. If your using a VV start low, when you 1st start seeing any sort of glow pick at your coils till they are even glow. Then bump up your volts and pick at your coils and repeat. What should be happening is that you are priming your coils so that when you reach a higher volts it will already have a little oxidizing on the coils. Good Luck.

the wire is too tight on your top wrap. (maybe your whole coil is too tight, but the current isn't getting that far) Basically, the wire is so snug against your wick at the top, there, that you are shorting into your mesh. If you're using the drill bit method (sliding wick into coil), use a smaller diameter wick, it should just be able to slide in there. If you're wrapping onto the wick, ease up. Also, if you have that "hot top leg" of wire, loosen your top nut and relieve some tension on the wire (then retighten the nut, yes?)

i had this happen when i was trying to pulse and remove hotspots. i ended up ruling it as the coil being wrapped too tight on the wick as mentioned above. i even wrapped another and another too tight with some looser wraps in between to verify. there shouldn't really be tension on the wire. wick can slide in and out the wraps without too much friction, and the wire going from the top of the wick to the center post should slightly deflect when pushed on.

also, more oxidation helped in later coil wraps. the videos showed 3 burns+quench in water and then 3 burns with fluid on the wick and fire.... i ended up doing 5 each and then still going on to pulse to get equal glowing and removing hotspots.

not rushing through any steps i have noticed is quite crucial to a good end result. when i rushed, i either popped the coil in the spot you mentioned or ended up with strange metallic tastes.
