The voltage is only half the consideration. If your battery was a bucket of water
the bigger the bucket the more mah. How fast you can empty the bucket, i.e how
big a hose you connect to it, the amperage makes a difference. batteries vary in
how fast they can give back the voltage they have stored, even if the voltage is the same.

The more amperage the battery can handle, the more the wattage produced, and the
wattage is what actually heats your atty. :)

so an 18650 hooked to a 510 atty would be the pinnacle of vaping on 3.7 (LR or SR)

Not necessarily first different people have different "sweet spots" your favorite voltage (power level) might not be the same as mine. to complicate it further different juices taste better at different voltages. For instance I have a fruit flavor that just doesn't taste right if I vape it in a 2.5 carto and if I vape this coffee I have in that same carto it tastes flat out burnt but my blueberry tastes great with the very same carto.

I've read a thread on it maybe someone who knows the one I mean will post a lin because I don't remember where it was at.

I don't know much about amperage, mah, volts etc.... what I can tell you is this:

When I used the standard 510 my battery lasted about 2 hours per charge but it would start to get weak about half an hour before it died so it seems the more empty the battery got the weaker it's production. I switched to the eGo and it took much longer for the battery to begin to weaken, so I got many more hours of good strong vapor production and less time trying to make sure the darned thing was still working.

I know this is a bit convoluted, but imagine if your car went slower and slower as the gas tank emptied -- you'd want a bigger gas tank right? Well, that's how the e-cig batts work (in my experience).

It is kind of like car batteries. They are all basically 12v batteries but the battery in a Diesel truck can give out a lot more "power" than the battery in a honda civic. Given equal voltage, Mah rating gives a good reference as to how much power the battery can "give back". A battery with higher capacity has more energy to give and so will be stronger and more consistent for a longer period of time before it needs to be recharged.

Excellent answers from all... I'm only 5 days in, so I just make damned sure there's one battery on USB charge while I'm wearing another out. I sometimes have to analyze a little to determine if my battery's in need of charge versus my cartridge going empty, but desperation makes the problem solvable every time. If in doubt, I replace both.

First - I think neither Ego nor 510 are 3.7v

510 is 3.2v and some say Ego runs around 3.4v? But you are right - if they were both the same volts using the same atty they would vape the same (thought the Ego cone supposedly enhances the vape by trapping heat and restricting ait flow). however, I don't think they are exactly the same voltage. I bet the Ego runs a bit higher voltage than 510 thus will give a warmer and potentially bigger hit out of the same atty and juice.

The biggest diff though is that Ego, as a battery over 450mah, can also use low resistance parts (attys and cartos) to get MUCH hotter hits which have the potential to also be bigger hits as more juice may be vaporized in the same length drag.

More to consider than capacity (mAh) and voltage. Also, the "speed" at which the power can be supplied. There are 'high drain' batteries which are capable of supplying higher amperage at the same voltage. Given the same mAh and atomizer, these will drain faster than standard batteries. And they provide a more 'powerful' vaping experience.



On the other hand, the above is the understanding of a non-expert and might be completely wrong. If I am wrong, I'll be pleased to have someone straighten it out for me.

what i dont understand is how the battery makes the difference in TH or Vape production. (3.7 v to 3.7 v)
I'd think that only diff between 510 battery and eGo battery is mAH.
but I've only used Joye ego when it comes to 510 atty's
Both use the same atty, so i'd think TH and Vape would be the same.

Stosh explained it well. The larger the battery, the longer it stays at or near maximum power which then provides warmer vapor for a longer period of time. The ultimate in vaping consistency and throat hit comes with a PV that uses regulated, boost circuitry such as the Darwin. I get 21+ hours of heavy vaping from my Darwin and the last inhale is exactly the same as the first inhale over those 21 hours because of that circuitry. You can't even get close to that performance with a straight 3.7 volt PV.
