Why does the boge "808D" carto suck so much and what's with priming?

Altho i almost always buy my cartos from SI and have been satisfied with them, i decided to save a few bucks and ordered 2 boxes of "BOGE808D-SR" cartos from High Desert Vapes. I was surprised to see a handwritten note from John saying"Bose labels these as '302D' but they have the 808D threading, I hope it's what you wanted."

I had never heard of 302D and they weren't described that way on their site but i gave it a try and really disliked the unmistakeable burnt taste of the filled carto after a few hits and the way they got so hot you couldn't vape it for long without a comfort tip. When i complained he basicly told me that all vendors sell them as 808D cartos so i shouldn't complain. the only way i could get them to work without a lot of burnt taste was to put it on my twist with an adapter and dial it all the way down to 3.2 volts.

Why do these things burn so hot, they are supposed to be 2.5ohms but i have used cartos of 2.5 ohms and less before without the burnt taste. Are they not horizontal coils?

John said in an email reply that the cartos need to be primed. What does that mean? I didn't want to ask him because i didn't like the tone or content of his response.

it tastes pretty normal when not being torched. That is another reason i think it is overheating rather than a burnt filler situation. I've never had that problem with my SI cartos. I only tried one because i hoped they might take them back, but John's email said they are nonreturnable because they are disposable, I'll say!!

SI cartos are bottom coil, and harder to burn. They have never confirmed that they are Kanger, but Kanger also make excellent bottom coil 808s. I think by primed he may have meant filling them and letting them sit about 30 min before first use. But they shouldn't be performing the way you describe, and if they are 2.5 ohm you wouldn't need to go down to 3.2 volts.

That's the hit or miss you get with Boge. You also get quality issues with kanger horizontal. Sometimes the coil gets pushed to the side and hits the filler. It's a strange taste. If it happens, come back and there's some trouble shooting. The more consistent ones come from the vendors who specialize in the 808 horizontal, like SI, Bloog and there's another place I haven't used in forever so I forgot. Same quality as SI but they don't put as much effort into marketing and branding so they are cheaper and offer free shipping.

Someone will jog my memory I'm sure....stay tuned for me to edit this post, if not.

I wouldn't call it hit or miss. He didn't prime the cartos.

How did you fill the boge cartos?

the filler material was too tightly packed to get a needle down the side more than an eighth inch. I DIY my liquids at least 70% VG so the drops just sat on top forever. finally, i discovered that i could put a few drops on top at at time then gently blow through the carto to push it down, repeat, repeat, repeat. Most of the cartos stopped working on my automatic batts, don't even get warm, but they work on my manuals.
My SI cartos come out to about $7.50 a box with my 15% discount code. I paid $6 for the boges. The SI cartos are well worth the extra 30 cents apiece imo.

I recommend SI or kanger cartos over V4L. V4L is vertical coil design is IMO is not as good as horizontal coil

I went to the SI website and their Blank cartos don't look like they will work with a provari. Are they eGo style connections (recessed)?

It was elite vaporworks that sells the horizontal coil 808s. Elite Vaporworks Cartomizers - Signature Series 808

I couldn't remember because I was sure I was wrong for a moment because there's another company that sells 808 gear with elite in the title.

Last I remember, they had free shipping. Didn't look around the site to see. But when I was using the smaller cartos, they were as good and the rest

good info, they do say free shipping and their prices are reasonable

My big issue is that High Desert Vapes is not standing behind the product they sell. The world of vaping is too small to think you can survive with poor customer relations.

i felt strongly about it too. they say they are disposable and therefore not warranted. i have seen other sites with similar disclaimers. they basically said we sell the same crap others sell. i haven't noticed but i wouldn't be surprised if SI has the same disclaimer. I have never complained to SI about their cartos but they were very accomodating giving me refunds in reward points when i returned 2 batteries that did not last the warranted 90 days. i'm not surprised to see some variation in quality in any brand, but my experience with SI cartos is that they are worth paying a couple more dollars for a box of them. btw i once ordered the larger size cartos in stainless steel and was not happy with their longevity, still better than boge though.

I generally won't patronize a vendor that does not seem to value my business, no matter how meager, but i have a hard time resisting a sale and i think they have the cheapest nic prices for small quantities.

Have you tried out the ce3's? Believe me when I say you'll thank yourself for making the switch. The nano's aren't bad either, they just don't hold up well. They have a tendency to come apart where the connector meets the tube. They cost a little more up front, but you'll get a lot more use out of them over a carto and the flavor is so much better.

For what it's worth I use Boge 2.0 Ohm cartos as well as Kangers. I haven't really had any such problems with the Boges. Are you filling them sufficiently? I usually get at least 25-30 drops in there. With a thicker liquid I have to stick a syringe needle down around the outside of the filler or it can take forever to wick. I've noticed a burnt taste a few times using a V2 (unregulated) but in general it's pretty rare. The Kangers work great too (2.8 Ohms) and I'm waiting on an order of 2.0 Ohm Kangers. I do like the crackling sound that the Boges make.
