I am going to try diy. My favorite juice runs $47 for a 70ml bottle from my local vendor. I ordered everything I need to duplicate it for about $35 dollars. If it works the amount made will be about 120ml for maybe $6. I will be able to use the nic and flavors about 5 more times, so I am willing to give it a try. If it turns out great, if not it won't be the first or last $35 I threw away.

I think what you may find is that making an Exact copy of a Retail e-liquid maybe be Hard.

But making something “Close” that is Very Vapable is Not that difficult. I’m sure you money will not be entirely wasted.

I do make my own but have found that I cannot duplicate most if not all of my favorites....simple as that in my instance. Now, I've come close enough on a couple to satisfy but that's about it though duplicating my favorites or another juice was never my goal as I have several diy that I enjoy as well and have cut my juice expenses significantly.

my only reason for not DIY'ing is because nicotine is more toxic than arsenic per mg when undiluted. The stuff you get in juice is basically harmless. Though i would not suggest baking, or drinking the stuff.

If you think you may have an interest Wizard Labs sells it in many concentrations and has all the supplies including flavoring, gloves, syringes etc that you may need....just a thought. All nic comes extremely well packaged too I must add.

yeah i have looked into DYi, and thanks for the info Keeno. But if i have to get "suited" up to make juice for my hobby. IMHO my hobby becomes more of a chore then a hobby. Its perfectly fine thing if your into that, just not worth the risk and hassle when ordering stuff is so much easier and hassle free.

btw keeno , what is that thing in your sig all about ?

You don't have to get suited up for diy :) The use of gloves and eye protection is fine, but it depends on what you are using.

For instance, the unflavored nicotine base that I use most of the time is only 36 mg/ml (3.6% nicotine) which is a level that some people would vape directly without harm; it is strong enough to mix up to 29 mg/ml at 20% total flavoring (much of what I do is high flavor %, using organic flavorings). I keep it away from children and pets, and wouldn't want to splash multiple ounces of it on me without washing, same as for final eliquid, but it isn't horrible. Small drips/spills I just wipe up with paper towel, no different than with eliquid. The other things I use are simple, non toxic, flavorings and pg/vg.

A smallish tray with sides keeps everything together and makes it easy to clean afterwards. Nic base is always the first thing I use in a mix, then it is recapped and put to the side.

Now, if for any reason I needed to use more "high test" nic base (maximum available to normal people is 100 mg/ml, 10%), then I would switch to gloves, though frankly I would probably do a first cut, bring it down to, say, 40 mg/ml. You always shake the bottle of nic base before using it, to make sure things are mixed.

Again, different people want to do different things, which is all good. If someone just dislikes measuring things, doesn't want to be bothered, commercial eliquid is fine, but diy doesn't have to be all that exotic.

Using proper Safety precautions around High Nicotine concentrations is a Must. Gloves and Eye Protection should Always be worn.

Some DIY’ers don’t like working with High Nicotine mg’s or don’t want to hassle of Down Mixing the Nicotine base with PG and VG. So they just buy Nicotine Base at a mg level that is about what they want to vape at and then just add Flavoring.

BTW - Proteins are Long Strands of Molecules which are “Folded” back onto themselves. It is not enough to know what a Protien is made up of. You also need to know how it is “Folded” to know how it will work.

I started off buying 12mg and just adding flavor as you mentioned above and worked out great and was very simple. Now that I'm comfortable with the entire process I typically buy 36 and just down mix it as you also mentioned.....quite a bit more "bang for my buck" down mixing as the 36mg isn't too much more expesive than the 12mg or 24mg depending on where one shops I suppose....:)

My, my, what a contentious thread.

I buy retail juices like there's no tomorrow, and I make DIY juices like there's no yesterday. Liter after liter after liter of both.

DIY has resulted in my having a somewhat greater disdain for the seemingly endless number of lousy retail juices in the marketplace and much greater appreciation for the truly talented retail juice artisans, who continue to astonish me.

You said it Bill. I think some people need to amp up the nicotine a tad.

If by chance I did, I'm not trying to say anyone who buys liquid is a sucker. I'll tell newbies where to go for some great juice, when I use to buy juice. For me personally, I rather digg some of my creations. Fruit wise I think my own mixes fare very well with vendor juice and I have little to no need to consider buying pre-made fruit flavors. I do understand it's not for everyone, and it's not something all people will get a good handle of. My personal theory is, if you're a good cook you'll probably be able to handle DIY, and if you're not a good cook, reconsider DIY. I wouldn't say "DIY snob" is the right word for people think buying liquid is for suckers. Maybe a better word might be "Juice Cheapskates". But come on 2.26$ vs 15-20$ 30ml as Mark mentioned, some people are too bull-headed about it but it's hard not to see they do have a point. You do save a ton of money DIYing. I think it's mentally harder to spend that money on juice when you DIY, get good at it, and start seeing how much money you save. For me it's not out of the question to buy really spectacular juice I know is worth my dollar. I see both sides. Some people can't or don't want to DIY and that's okay too.

However, for those with high rates for nicotine liquid itself you could make juice without any nicotine if that's a problem. If DIY is something you'd really like to try. PG & VG shouldn't(I would hope) don't have high tariff fees.

I agree with everything you say except the good cook part. I'm an awesome cook, my family loves my food. Its something I picked up being in the restaurant business for 20 years BUT I dont measure anything and thats why I dont think Id be very good at DIY.

I might make some killer flavors throwing a few ingredients together based on intuition etc but have a hell of a time duplicating it later on.

I might be wrong here but I'm guessing that DIY involves a lot of math and documentation and that just doesnt seem like fun to me in addition to the other reasons Ive listed.

The math is pretty simple, and there are purpose-built calculators and spreadsheets, free, to help on that.

The documentation is keeping accurate notes of how much of each flavoring to use in a given mix, whether by % or how many ml per so many ml of final eliquid. For instance my vanilla tobacco is 10% natures flavors vanilla and 10% tpa tobacco blend alc, which means 6 ml of each in a 60 ml batch. Failed mixes you just cross out or delete, and a lot of us have published what we think are good mixes which means people have access to a lot of decent starting blends.

The 5 minutes start-to-finish for me to make 60 ml of vanilla tobacco is real. I use a 60 ml bottle to hold it, and a single 15ml graduated beaker to measure the ingredients, for pouring into the bottle. (It's actually easier to mix at 60 ml like I do for my all-day, I don't futz with pipettes or syringes to deal with small quantities of the ingredients.)

Then again, absolutely nothing wrong with store bought, whether KBV, BWB V4L, or whoever's.

The Math is Not that bad and there are ways to Greatly Simplify the Entire Process.

As to keeping Accurate, Detailed Records. That is hard to Skimp on. At least if you want to make a Good Recipe Twice that is.

A list of EXACTLY what went into a Recipe written down on a 3-x-5 card is Bare Minimum. Kinda like the Recipes cards my Grandmother would make when she would bake something.

Im not knocking DIY at all and I believe you, I just hate math.Maybe if I found a couple of really nice base recipes and tweaked them from their it would work for me and Im not ruling it out at a later date, its just not something that appeals to me right now.

I hear you.

I think there about as Many Good reasons to do DIY as there are to buy Retail e-Liquids. It just comes down to what a person Wants or Doesn't Want.
