Why don't you become a supporting member?

I am a ...... I read down through the sticky and clicked on subscibe....for UK/EU States. Wonder if that is just to discern where people are from or whether it will mess up my Paypal payment...I've used Paypal once before in my life and don't know a lot about it. I'm definitely from New England, but not England. Whoops.

I always remembered I hail from coffee (New England) not tea (England). I'd like to thank my second grade teacher for that.

You got a legit lol from me though, that's what counts.

I never noticed ads. Where were they?
Well, to be honest, I don't know since I have been a supporting member for over three years.
But back in the day, they had advertisements loading if you were not a supporting member, and they slowed things down quite a bit.

I just figured they still had them if you weren't a supporting member.
But I could be wrong.
:)

Is there any information about the legal status of ECF ... is it a for-profit corporation ... what exactly is done with the membership fees in terms of fighting the FDA ... are the books open to the membership for inspection ... who derives any income from ECF and how much.

Having been involved with supposedly charitable organizations in the past where directors were hoarding away hundreds of thousands annually while desperately pleading for support still makes my stomach turn.

My thinking on all of this is who cares?

If the owners of this forum make a fortune from it, they more than deserve it.
Not saying they are, or they aren't, I'm just saying.

I wasn't aware that they are claiming to be a charitable organization though.
Are you maybe thinking of CASAA?

My thinking on it is if someone is going to be a member then these things should be known to them, otherwise one is merely a contributor and to exactly what is also unknown if you don't have the infos. People routinely state become a member to fight the FDA, well I say show me the money. Otherwise it's just marketing generalities.

As far as getting a lot of support from this forum, yes very true, but I also give back my time to help others as I'm sure you have done too. I don't have any issues with $ 25 a year, but for me it's more the principle of it. I feel there has to be at least a minimal amount of information I need to even consider whether that could be defined as a member, and have no aversion to becoming one.

If the owners of this forum make a fortune from it, they more than deserve it.
That's another issue.

I wasn't aware that they are claiming to be a charitable organization though.
That would be 1 piece of info that has a bearing on my query.

Are you maybe thinking of CASAA?
Will look into that.

I do think that you are thinking of CASAA, as become a supporting member here would not assist in fighting the FDA much.

Now as far as joining CASAA, I do believe CASAA would be willing to show you their books if you asked them to.
When they were formed here on this forum, transparency was one of the founding principles.

Then again, you don't even have to pay to join CASAA, but donations are always needed.

ECF is not a charitable organization it is a forum.

They are not selling memberships. They are offering you the CHOICE to support their website. If you don't want to support it, then move on. I joined here in August for free. I haven't paid one dime for all the knowledge and help I have received since then, and I am still a member of this site. I have paid it forward and saved a few friends and family members from a life of smoking.

As I go back and read that it sounds harsh to have gained what I have from this place and not paid back financially but I have my reasons. When another option presents itself I will be first in line to pay what I feel I owe.

yeah i imagine theres a cost to each transaction so they prefer it all at once... you guys could maybe put a buck in a jar every other day and in a month and a half you'd have enough...its just an karma investment i think

i give money to a lot of charities but this isn't really a charity this is something we all use and benefit from

funny thing is that I do have a jar that I collect my loonies toonies and even $5 bills sometimes... just not on debit and I'd rather not xfer out of savings. Yay saving for school. Definitely donating beginning of march though
