I guess its just me as I really just hate the standard ego/kgo batteries, especially the cheaper ones from Microcig... They always seem to break on me in one way or another. If they get shorted out they seem to break. After a few to many drops they seem to break. Over tightening at atomizer easily pushes down the center pin, pulling it back out can easily break the solder connection or thin wire inside. If your using a device that pulls air through the connector, as is common of many atomizers, leaking ejuice always seems to find its way into and past the connector commonly breaking the device. I have a drawer with 20+ dead ego style batteries from many different sources.

I understand and respect the ergonomic (size) argument, but that shouldn't be a demanding justification to buy a $20 item that will not last but a few weeks/months. I really feel a vapor should own at least one device that works on a changeable lithium cell. It does not need to be in the 18xxx form factor. The eCab for example, uses 'aaa' sized rechargeable 10440 lithium cells, costs $65 with 2 cells including charger and is a pretty darn good alternative. Also, there are a good deal of mechanical mods that use '14500' cells that are 'AA' sized, you can find them pretty cheap on fasttech... Link 1 Link 2 Link 3

I'm just trying to say you can go IMR mechanical that is compatible with any atomizer/clearomizer with the potential to advance into fancy rebuildables without needing further upgrades... Seems like a better investment to me and I wish someone would have advised me to get a cheapo mechanical mod 3-4 years ago... (oh wait they didn't really exist...:vapor: and be glad your a noob in a world so filled with amazing and wonderful choices, so go watch some youtube videos and do your homework before you buy something.)

As someone who is new to this i'll give you my two cents worth.

I went straight from analogs to the eGo and i love it. It gives me a decent throat hit with the right juice, i have never had the battery fail on me yet (in a few days of use) and it gives me a good amount of vapour and flavour if i use it right.

For me, one of the major factors is ergonomics. It has to feel natural and comfortable in my hand, and also in my pocket. I honestly see no flaws in the eGo, but again i must stress, i'm a noob.

However, 'upgrading' hasn't even crossed my mind. Though perhaps someone could enlighten me, what am i missing by sticking with the eGo?

I didn't really see anything with the right topper.
With the right top (3ml tank) I'd get a full day out of 1000mah and I could get satisfying vapor from everything I've tried.

But with an 18650 I get a lot more than a day out of the battery. For me less messing around charging and filling is what I was missing. I don't mind the size (I actually like it).
The VV/VW part of it, using the 3ml tanks I liked with eGos VW was handy because I had to change/clean coils often. With the RBA's I use now I do use VV to suit the mood, outside temperature and state of the coil but it's certainly not a deal breaker. And there's some (hopefully) long term cost benefits of using (cheap) 18650 mods with the replaceable batteries. There's definite cost benefits of RBAs.

I think that the VV eGos are about the best bang for your buck. You get a majority of the value of a larger and more complicated VV mod, the only thing you lose is the extreme battery capacity and some of the ease of use that a VW device might give you. Compared to a fixed voltage eGo I think VV eGos provide a more consistent voltage.

For someone who is building their own coils and wants the ohmmeter function or thinks they need a high voltage power source with a long life, a bigger VW mod may make more sense, but for the kind of people using a normal, unmodified attachments it seems excessive.

I don't get the mech mod attraction at all, outside of the fashion statement aspect of it.

I may be cynical but I really don't undserstand the need for anything more than a VV spinner.

If you think about it, we're talking about a little dot on a battery that gets hot enough to fire a coil. That's it. If you can control how hot it gets by changing the voltage, that's about all you need to do. The other bells and whistles are great and all - ohm meters and puff counters and replaceable mega batteries - but it doesn't change the quality of the vape. Now different tanks and ohms and all that will but the battery needs to do one thing - heat that little dot enough to fire the coil. And that happens the same way from a provari all the way down to the humble VV Spinner.

If the longevity isn't great then perhaps it's better to upgrade? Or just to buy a new back up? My brother has had an eGo for about 8months and has had no problems with it yet. Do the more costly e-cigs last significantly longer?

I think all but the cheapest will last awhile- depending on abuse. I've had 3 different brands that lasted quite long. I've had Joye Upgrade egos that I have 1-1/2 yrs. on and running strong.

Drippy, malfunctioning clearos often kill them, as well as low OHM attys and physical abuse.

    that's a great question.

i try to get a good read on the person: how committed they are, how much they want to spend, their capacity to figure it out.

simple ego's are a great place to start. on the lowest level i will recommend a starter kit, 2 if they can afford it so they have a back up. next level is a vv ego with a regular ego as a backup.

i still use ego's on the regular along with my mechs and vv mods. after all, it's just a battery and they kick ... with quality toppers.

i try to understand someone just might not like vaping. i don't think having a 'lowly ego' will cheapen or hinder their experience and they can always upgrade at their own pace then keep the egos as a backups.
