Fearlessleader, using or seeking the Panasonic battery's for those devices are simply a waste of time concidering the amount of pulse discharge @ .5 ohm builds, there are still decent battery's available, whether it be AW , Efest, VTC4, I was just trying to give you alternatives from a reputable company ( xtar ) that's been making battery's / chargers for a long time and what I feel better than LG IMO if they are in fact VTC4 wraps .....

For those wondering, let's be clear:

No new VTC4/5s are able to be sourced at this time. End of story.

Most reputable dealers will now have this stated on their website so this confusion is further avoided.

If you are ordering from "joeschmoe vape site" and they have new VTC5s in stock, I call BS. Just accept that they are gone for now and move on for fugs sake....

There are still VTC4s floating around as NOS (New Old Stock). If the Xtar re-wrapped batteries are VTC4s: what they have is all they have and was sourced earlier in 2014, and when they're gone, they're gone. It is entirely possible that Xtar resourced the Sony cells for this particular line and could have button tops on them too. Xtar isn't exactly a whack company, though I frankly wouldn't put anything past anybody. I'd wait for someone to order a batch and test them properly with proper gear for temperature/discharge data to confirm. (and no, that doesn't mean your buddy with a 120W mod, it means a guy with probes and measuring instruments)

Batteries to replace the Sony VTC5:

LG 18650HE2 (Efest purple 35A is this exact same battery) (20A continuous)
Samsung 20R or 25R (20A continuous)
Orbtronics SX30 (30A continuous) (note: this could be a re-wrapped NOS Sony VTC4 as well)
AW 1600mAh (NOT the 2000mAh) (24A continuous)

The LG and Sony are available as flat tops or button tops. The Orbtronic and AW are button top only.

If you want slightly higher mAh for regulated devices below 30Watts:

Panasonic NCR18659PF 2900mAh (available at Orbtronics) (10A continuous)

Above all: DO NOT BUY BATTERIES FROM EBAY OR AMAZON. EVER.

Some reputable dealers:

Batteries - RTD vapor

Batteries - Batteries, Chargers, and PowerPax Carriers

Batteries - Lithium, Li-Ion, IMR, NiMH, Alkaline; Battery Chargers; Battery Carriers

18650 Li-ion Batteries and Quick Chargers

Edit to add:

I'm not sure on the Xtars, but the Orbtronic SX30 has always been confirmed to be longer than any other 18650 battery, and frankly just won't fit in some mods because of that. That could be that a re-wrapped Sony VTC4 with a button top added is longer. I'd look for the exact same problem with the Xtars if both are indeed re-wrapped NOS Sony VTC4s.

Provape explicitly recommends using only AW high drain button-top batteries in the Provari.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/provape/334831-technical-why-high-drain-batteries.html

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/provape/524874-question-tech-engineers-provape.html

These batteries are not high drain batteries.

They are IMR/hybrid batteries with only 6 amp continuous discharge rating, are high internal resistance and low drain. These were designed for flashlights.

There's much more to picking a battery than choosing the one with the higherst mAh rating.

Ok I am a bit confused my provari 1.1 won't fire much below 1.4 ohm so what would it need a high drain bat and even bought the batteries right from provari and they were junk they were dead in no time. I ended up buying Panasonic NCR18650PF they have a max amp draw of 10 amps so I thought they would be god to have around I don't use my provari much anymore since I got my Akuma clone but it seem every review I see most are using the sony US18650vtc4 or the sony US18650vtc5. SO that was what I bought for my akuma mod and for all my regulated models like my Wifes DNA 30. I got the NCR18650PF. I just know all the efest and stuff like that I bought all seem like junk and died in no time and did not last in the device for nothing.

I seem the review on Youtube and thought I would try the ones he said to use but had a heck of a time finding them

I am so ;lost with all that been posted i am more clueless now than when I started

Right now I am vaping on my new US18650vtc4 in my Akuma mechanical with a .9 ohm dual coil I made myself and it working great. I hope this was the right bat that I bought for that.

Now I did not buy the Panasonic NCR18650b even if that was what the guy had in his vid on youtube I am waiting for a 3 pack of Panasonic NCR18650PF that was what I ordered for my chippies DNA 30 and Provari 1.1 these mostly have about 1.4 ohm to 1.2 coils in them

Just wondering why everyone sounds so mad at each other. I did not want to start a war here just make sure I got the right stuff or if I did not make sure I do get the right stuff next time I was in a bit of a jam and needed this asap. my new Akuma got here on wednesday and I had noting for a mechanical mod to sub Ohm with

Ok this is more useful thanks that was more what I was asking was why they can't be bought at this time and I had such a hard time to find any. Thanks for the info and the links I hope the Panasonic NCR18659PF was the right ones to get for my chip models as that is what I bought. When I was into the mole car racing we used sony sanyo panasonic these are names I trust Efest who would never buy one again already went that route a few times and got burned

I sure there are companies like Xtars that sell rewraps but with them it even harder to be sure u don't get fakes

I could use a good list of Sony Sanyo and Panasonic's bats and what they're best used in Mechanical or Chippies. I would rather throw out a few extra buck on them then every dime I spend on a Efest. I am not looking for the best deal just the best bat needed or not. When I was into RC cars I long learned that there is no such thing as a bang for your buck in batteries. There good name top shelf and all the rest and there are no bargains just cheap batteries

Did you even read the links that I provided in my earlier post? Provape explains in both links why they recommend AW and high-drain batteries.

Technical: Why High Drain Batteries?

Question for the Tech Engineers at Provape

I'm quite frankly surprised you consider the AW batteries from Provape to be "junk - they were dead in no time". Provape is an authorized supplier of AW batteries, meaning they buy their AW batteries directly from AW and there is no chance that they are fakes. Over two and a half years I have purchased at least 20 AW IMR batteries in 14500, 18350, 18490, and 18650 sizes. Every one of them have been consistant and excellent performers. Even the oldest of the bunch at 2 1/2 years old are still in my rotations. 90% of the batteries that I own and use are AW IMR's.

I have no idea why you had such poor luck with your AW batteries purchased from Provape. That is definitely not the norm.

I ended up buying Panasonic NCR18650PF they have a max amp draw of 10 amps so I thought they would be good to have around.I just know all the efest and stuff like that I bought all seem like junk and died in no time and did not last in the device for nothing.
The Panasonic NCR18650PF 2900mAh batteries are an excellent battery and theoretically will meet the demands of a Provari.

However, the Panasonic/Orbtronic NCR18650A 3100mAh and NCR18650B 3400mAh and NCR18650BE 3100mah are NOT high drain batteries. The pulse width modulation circuitry of the Provari requires a high-drain battery, as stated in both of the above two links.

I share the same feelings for Efest batteries as you. From both personal experience with Efests and what I have researched about the company's batteries, their quality and consistancy leave much to be desired, and their deceptive marketing practices raise a hair on my back.

I could use a good list of Sony Sanyo and Panasonic's bats and what they're best used in Mechanical or Chippies.

Battery Basics for Mods

Well I am going to retire my provari I think It's 1.1 on of the first made and now I have my Kuma clone and I am loving it and so far its working great with my new Sony US18650vtc4 mostly I will use the provari for time I am building coils and need something to vap when my other units being serviced I never had much success with the unit it worked ok when i was using cartomizers and clearomizers back in the day they just never lasted long like most of that kind of stuff for me, the fire button is getting a bit wonky too so what ever i have on hand the works with it fair enough wil be fine. On the other hand the things i need in the long term will be for the Clouper DNA 30 my wife is getting now and the kuma mod that I have are most important.

I already have 3 atomiser set ups, some sort of a dripper, kinda like a brass monkey it dual or single coil. I got it local one day for grins and giggles but it smokes like a beast. I love it for juice tasting it easy to change the cotton so it has a place for me it has all the right features dual or single coil adjustable air flow

The I have my Kayfun lite single coil that is my everyday vaping unit sub Ohm .9 works good for me

And I have a 10 ml Kraken on its way so the next mod I buy with be a 26650 Chiyou.

So the Panasonics I have ordered now will get me by on the Provari for the few times I use it. I hope they work well in the Clouper DNA 30.

YA I don't know why I had so much bad luck with batteries in my provari but I did, it made using it very frustrating. I got on bat from Provari and it did not last 2 months most to the bats I got from them lasted about 2 months or just a bit more. After that I tried a few other but no luck on any really but this time I thought I would buy names that I used for my RC cars. If they could make batteries for that sport they had to able to make god batts for this too. I sure hope I am right and these last and work decent

I am going to read all the stuff u posted in thanks for your time it a great help. Learning about this stuff is important to having success. If I am going to actually make it and quit smoking having a good quality vap is important to me. One of the reason I gave up was always having that nasty burnt taste it seems. I don't have that anymore. The equipment I have now so far is working very well and building coils keep my hands busy.

Now it just finding the right batteries that last and work in my units I have. Then I should have a frustration free vaping

What would be some modle number of high drain batteries I should be looking for if i want to use them in regulated mods like the Provari and the Clouper DNA 30,

I use the VTC4 in my mechanical mods but I am still clueless on what the right one for the chipped mods. I really want to stay with names I know like Sony, Sanyo Samsung and Panasonic. How can I tell a model if its high drain? is there something in the specs that sets it off I can see and do all chipped mods need high drain or is that a provari thing

Well, what you need to know first is how many amps the device needs to run safely at max power. For the Provari's currently out there, I believe 10A is good. Someone correct me if I got that wrong.

For the DNA30, I Googled and found the datasheet on it. You'll see that the max input current is 12A, so that's what your battery will have to suply safely. mAh does not matter to the device, that just helps define how long a battery will last before it has to be recharged, but mAh doesn't tell the whole story on that either.

I really want to stay with names I know like Sony, Sanyo Samsung and Panasonic. How can I tell a model if its high drain? is there something in the specs that sets it off I can see and do all chipped mods need high drain or is that a provari thing

High drain is generally defined as 10A continuous and up. I would never go with less than a 10A battery in a chipped mod. Here's a slightly outdated chart of batteries and max amp draw numbers. IMO the most important missing battery in that chart is the Samsung INR18650-25R. It rates 2500 mAh and 20A continuous. It's what I would probably buy right now if I could not get a known good VTC5 for any high drain application that didn't go above 20A and at $8 a pop at Illumination Supply it won't break the bank :)

Fearlessleader, The Ohm’s Law Calculator is used for many applications. ohmslawcalculator.com/ohms_law_calculator.php

It is a commonly used tool for people that vape. When building your own coils and using mechanical mods, one must take into account the resistance of the coil and the voltage of the battery. Using The Ohm’s Law Calculator, you can find the AMP draw on the coil. You can compare the result to the AMP limit of the battery and know if you are safe or not.

Input at least 2 known variables and click the calculate button. Most builders will know their voltage, between 3.7v – 4.2v. The other known variable should be the resistance of the coil. You should have an ohm meter for coil building ( not the one on your mod / chip ). Building and using coils without knowing the resistance can be dangerous.
I think this will take some of the mystery out of your questions as to which battery's to choose, Just as important as having a good performing battery applies to having a good quality charger ( some have a voltmeter on them ) and not the usb on the mod / chip, charge them slow .5 - 1.0.
Glad to hear your success of being tar free....

An AW IMR 18350 is only 6a.

Just curious, did you ever do your monthly maintanance on your Provari?

Things like cleaning the positive battery contact inside the battery tube of the Provari. Batteries leave carbon deposits which can affect electrical conductivity.

Cleaning the end cap threading with Noaloxx? If your threads look black, they need a good cleaning; they should look like shiney new bare metal.

These things affect battery & processor performance because they are part of the battery circuit. The premature fire button "blinking" is often because of the above dirty contacts.

Again, a large list of high drain batteries is in the links that I provided you. Take the time to read the information that has already been given you and you won't need to keep asking questions. It's all there. If you read that and are still confused, I'd rather you then ask questions rather than buying the wrong batteries. :)

Any of the batteries by major brand name battery manufacturers should be considered: AW, LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony.

Unless you are running sub ohm coils under 0.6 ohms, you don't really need a 30 amp battery. A 10 amp continuous discharge rated 18650 IMR battery will do for a regulated VV/VW mod. The high-wattage DNA boards only need a minimum of 12 amps continuous discharge rating, so any battery with 20 amps continuous will do for them. Evolv DNA30 data sheet. If considering to use the purple Efest batteries, understand that the [URL="http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/6662-17-purple-efest-batteries-not-advertised.html"Purple Efests Not As Advertised[/URL].

If you believe Efest's spec sheet, the purple Efest 18350 battery claims to have a 10.5 amp discharge rating. I believe these may be available as button tops, so those should work in a Provari Mini IF you can find them. I've not used these myself in my Mini, as I use only AW 18350 IMR's, however the purple Efest 18350 tests out pretty good from what I've read on the flashlight enthusiasts forums.

Sorry to get off topic again but If you want the truth authentic means very little in the black market of china / Singapore .The only way some online shops know anything about the cells there buying is having or seeing the letter of certification from the original manufacture to another manufacture to produce there product "which is being done in multiple factory's for every style of cell made" legally meaning maintaining OEM specs as well as the online shop doing there own thorough analysis. Engineers of Provape seriously ?
Don't believe me ? send this guy an email and learn the truth....

Fearlessleader, ever heard the term " extra fuel in the tank " I don't think you can go wrong with upping the battery amperage for mods and with a quality charger you should be getting consistent hours out of them, Baditude is right though you do need to clean your contacts maybe every coil change or two as you will see performance as well as voltage drop if you choose not to.

I went through a period where I was killing AW batteries way too fast. Took me months to realize it was a bad charger causing all the problems. Even after attempting recovery on most of those batteries I had to dispose of them, only a couple out of eight batteries ever held up to usage again. It's amazing how bad some of the chargers commonly sold are.
