But an 8 hour shift to shut down, retool, and restart the line. Which needs to be done twice for every "Per Customer Request".

Not necessarily.
Caps are an individual part of the assembly and feed to the assembly to be compressed into place.
Both flat tops and Button tops use the same dimensions so it is often as simple as exchanging the part being inserted.
An open center Die can set either cap as both are not actually flat and both have a specific outer ring/diameter allowing for accurate placement.

We are talking about a cap not a custom battery.:D

What is the Best way to clear out your inventory of Quality products - Claim to soon be NLA(Discontinued) Grab them while you can.
What is the Best Way to Sell your #2 Brand items - Tell people the #1 Brand has been Discontinued.
How do you jump start a New Production line(like -Tesla) Promote your production capabilities and start a rumor that your competition is Discontinuing their line.

Is Sony Discontinuing the VTC Line?

Yea, I have taken several breaks - - but these guys are thorough about investigating issues.

OMG - some of those so called High end BOX mods

Oh, and the Battery thing is 1 hour 5 minutes in I believe.

Here's a link to the Youtube video, relevant part starts at 1:05:00: http://youtu.be/GSRsOk4NdZI?t=1h5m

Yeah I started watching at 1:05. It is certainly plausible on the supply issue but very encouraging that a major battery manufacturer has shown an interest in this market.

Yeah I saw that video when it aired a month ago.

The fact remains that if trustworthy suppliers are now officially chiming in on how there is no new supply today, a month after this VTC story really started coming to light, still leaves little room for any debate on the main subject of the thread: Avoid buying new VTC5 batteries, because in all likelihood they are fakes.

From Mountain Electronics home page:
Screenshot2014-09-12at80200PM_zpsc2fdb447.png

(also I'd like to add Mountain Electronics has removed their description of LG18650HE2 as "35 amp" from the official product listing, just a snafu on the homepage)

From Illumination Supply:
Screenshot2014-09-12at80136PM_zps9b2721ed.png

It's worth noting that Illumination Supply actually tests their batches of batteries for sale against verified authentic data, and actually received and unwittingly sold a small amount fake VTC5s before discovering the problem, causing them to contact customers and inform/recall/refund. How many "no-name upstart vape shops" or Ebay sellers scrutinize and test their inventory like this?

I keep seeing people replying in threads all over ECF with links to increasingly shady no-name shops and Ebay sellers in an attempt to be helpful: "I just got a half dozen new VTC5s from _____ website. Here's the link!" - And most likely that shop got their VTC5s from this place.

There are no new VTC5s to be sourced. End of story. :D

This may change tomorrow, (watch next week Sony announces massive roll-out of VTC6 ), but today, for fugs sake buy an alternative battery and get on with vaping already. And when you see someone posting questionable links to "new VTC5," politely inform them of the currently verified situation.

These are another example of a re wrapped LG he2 which has a maximum continuous discharge rate of 20a.
Good battery as long as you stay below / do not exceed their 20 amp CDR.

There is no battery "safe" to use in series in an e-cig!

tj, Why can't you use these battery's in series for a mod box ?

    Starts at 1:22:50

You would need to use a bigger box to hold the switch necessary for the amperage
Actually you would be better off using a solenoid instead of a switch.

All joking aside, there is an inherent risk with stacking batteries, always has been, always will be.

I did some research and I found many that said the sony US18650vtc4 and Panasonic NCR18650b are some of the best bats but U just cant find them it seems like everyone is out of them. I dont get it, I sure not everyone knows to buy these bats so it not like there is a run on them I am sure. I took a whole nite of searching to find 4 batteries and then you have to weed thru a bunch more that say is a sony but have some generic picture and just say its a Sony or Panasonic. It don't make me feel any better to buy them even if they have good review and it seems the seller is honest.

The other part that made me nuts was that they all wanted to sell flat tops or only offered Panasonic's button top protected. My provari can't use them so it made me a nite from hell trying just to buy bats :-(

You would this that the sellers know that there is a lot of knock off and folks are leary in the first place at least they could do is use a real picture. I would think that these better bats would be easy to get but there not at all

The only place that seem to have them all is Fastech but because shipping regulations it takes like to months to get them buy slow boat thats crazy too Now i got my first good set of bats i needed it not a big deal I just order 2 set every few months from Fastech that way I will alway have some on order that way I can rotate them out every 3 to 4 months. SO far since i got back into vaping the 2 things that make me crazy. buy bats and that this thing with clones the same site may have 3 or 4 different companies that make the same clones and some are great and some are garbage but yet then don't say who makes them for real but they gladly tell you who the trying the knock off but not who did the knocking :-(

I got mine from the recycling basket on the way out of a local DIY store - 7x 5.2A cells in a discarded laptop pack.

Sony VTC's are a flat top ... or they are FAKES!

This is false, Sony VTC4's also came in button top form, and they're back in production. Sony partnered with xtarlight when they opened their new factory in the Philippines, and xtarlight is an authorized distributor for them.

Here's a link for them, you can order them in flat top or button top, although flat top is sold out currently: http://www.xtardirect.com/collectio.../18650-2100mah-battery-unprotected-button-top

I actually think manufacturer is pulling them from production because they are used for vaping. It's all over the Internet, and they are high drain. But the last thing Sony and/or Panasonic wants is a lawsuit because some guy ended up vaping his 0.02 ohm build and blowing off his hand. I'm sure Sony and Panasonic have people who watch out for this stuff.
