What brand are they and do you work in an extremely quiet environment? Are you running them at a fairly high voltage or possibly running them dry enough to make a lot of noise but still wet enough to produce vapor and not burn?

Some cartos do just make more noise than others and different devices result in slightly different sounds when firing.

LOL I'm oddly comforted by the snap crackle and pop of my cartos. I've used standard res and low res dual coils and they all do it.. Doesn't matter the battery I use.. My 510 mini or my twists or my provari.. all of them are music to me :p (whoosh crackle crackle pop!) hehe

Well now we know where those Rice Crispies guys went.

If you use an Ego, the cone will damper the sound a bit. It will still crackle but in a more "white noise" sounding way. T3's are pretty quiet, but I cannot get past the gurgling problem. Vivi Novas are pretty quiet and less problematic as far as clearos go. The NJOY King disposable is the quietest thing I have ever vaped but they are a complete ripoff pricewise as they die in under a half hour of heavy use. I only use them for stealth vaping in the bathroom, mainly because they are dead silent.

Probably a function of the tube acting as an amplifier, just like a horn. The high frequency crackling is amplified by the tube shape but also the metal of the carto. The polyfill blocks the lower sounds, so all you get is that loud crackle.

This.

The VAMO is especially noisy and airflow can be a culprit also. I vape at work in an area full of cubicles and know the sound has got to be annoying to those around me. I can usually adjust the height of my tank a smidgeon to reduce the noise but for times I can't I made a rubber gasket to mute the airflow.

I decided that annoying my co-workers was no way to promote the efficacy of e-cigs so I try to keep the noise to a minimum.

Now...if I can just get the guy across from me to chew with his mouth closed....

I keep it to the men's room. Fortunately we have single restrooms, so I have it to myself. Though my coworkers probably think I have chronic .........
